LHS Health Science Pathway • Fast Facts • The Rutgers Health Science Careers program began in 1993 • More than 65 high schools in New Jersey participate in the Rutgers SHP Careers in Health Sciences Program.  • In addition to coursework, students participate clinical internships during each year of their enrollment • Since its inception, the program has graduated more than 15,000 students Science Pathways Information Meeting January 23, 2019

  7. LHS Health Science Pathway • Rutgers Transcript Calculations- All students must attain a C (73) or better in the LHS course in which they are enrolled to take the Rutgers Final Exam. The minimum passing Rutgers Final Exam grade for all students must be at least 70 before calculation of Rutgers transcript grade.   • Dynamics of Health Care in Society - 100% of Rutgers exam grade = Rutgers grade ONLY listed on transcript. • Anatomy and Physiology 1 – 50% Rutgers exam grade + 50% LHS grade = Rutgers grade listed on transcript. • Anatomy and Physiology 2 – 50% Rutgers exam grade + 50% LHS grade = Rutgers grade listed on transcript. • Medical Terminology – 50% Rutgers exam grade + 50% LHS grade = Rutgers grade listed on transcript. LHS Health Science Pathway • Dynamics of Healthcare in Society Course Description • Interdisciplinarystudy of healthcare and its delivery. • Focus on process skills including critical thinking, ethical reasoning, effective communication, and self‐directed learning abilities.  • Emphasis is placed on the role of the health care practitioner as both provider and consumer of health care services. • Students will immerse themselves in a professional setting while practicing general workplace and clinical skills including taking Vital Signs, other assessments of body processes, recording accurate health data, transferring and transporting patients, and self-care. LHS Health Science Pathway • Medical Terminology – Will be embedded into A&P 1 & 2 • Study of words that pertain to body systems, anatomy, physiology, medical processes and procedures and a variety of diseases. • Provides specialized language enabling health care workers to communicate in an accurate, articulate and concise manner. • This course will give the students a comprehensive knowledge of word construction, definition and use of terms related to all areas of medical science. • The course includes but is not limited to terms related to anatomy of the human body, functions of health and disease, and the use of language in processing medical/dental records and claim forms.
