  3. Objectives • Students will know the steps required to obtain permit • Students will know the steps required to obtain license • Students will know how to replace/renew their license • Students will know their rights regarding becoming an organ donor

  4. How to Get Permit: • Learn everything is this class • Take driver knowledge exam • Pass vision screening • Obtain TIPIC (Temporary instruction permit identification card)

  5. Drivers Knowledge Exam • Questions are multiple choice • Questions will be based off the material covered in this course • You must pass with at least 75% of questions answered correctly

  6. Opportunity to Respond ! • True or false: I cannot get my permit if I wear glasses or contact lenses.

  7. False, you just must meet the minimum requirements while wearing your corrective lenses.

  8. What’s next after I get my permit? • You have ONE YEAR to get your license • If you wait too long you will have to reapply • Take and pass drivers skills test • Go to BMV, pay the fees and get your license!

  11. What is the Drivers Skills Test? • Maneuverability and Driving Test • Maneuverability is conducted in two steps • Forward through a box • Back past the point marker, straighten car, and stop with bumper even • Watch this!

  12. Drivers Skills Test cont. • Once you pass the maneuverability test, you will be allowed to take the skills test that is conducted on the road. • After the skills test, the instructor will provide feedback and you will find out if you passed.

  13. Skills Test Scoring • Points will be deducted for: • Stopping to check progress • Bumping markers • Misjudging stopping distance • Not parallel with test area • Immediate failure= running over or knocking down a marker, removing a marker completely from its designated area or other dangerous action.

  14. If you passed… • You will go to the BMV • Pay necessesary fees • Get your license!

  15. If you did not pass… • The knowledge test: you must wait 24 hours before retaking the exam. • If you fail the skills test: • if you fail the maneuverability test you will not permitted to move on to the road skills test. • You must wait seven days before retaking the road skills test • If you pass the maneuverability but fail the skills test, you will only be required to retake the skills test. • If you fail the skills test four times you must wait six months retesting.

  16. Accommodations • You may be able to take an audio version of the knowledge test, but it’s up to the examiner. You must be able to understand all traffic signs.

  17. Renewing Your License • If you receive your license before your 21st birthday, it will expire on your 21st birthday. You must renew your license on your 21st birthday and every four years after that. • How to renew: • Go to a deputy registrar office • Retake the vision test • Pay the appropriate fees • Get a new photo taken

  18. Replacing Your License • If your license is lost, stolen, or destroyed, you must get it replaced. • You must have verification of your identification (birth certificate, or passport) • It is $22 for each replacement license

  19. Organ Donor • When getting your license, you will be asked if you want to become an organ donor. • If you choose to become an organ donor, a symbol will appear on your license.
