  6. DISCUSSION GUIDE 1. What was Paul saying through his life verse in (1:21)? He was ready to be with Christ in heaven, but if he needed to remain, Christ was the center of his being.

  7. DISCUSSION GUIDE 2. Read (2 Corinthians 5:1-8) and list Paul’s outlook on life and death. • Paul knew his heavenly home was sturdy and eternal (v. 1). • Paul longed to be in heaven (vs. 2-3). • Paul lived eternally (abundantly) while on earth (v. 4). • Paul knew this was all God’s design and the Holy Spirit was here to help in our earthly lives (v. 5). • Paul had courage because he had faith in the hope of heaven (vs. 6-8).

  8. DISCUSSION GUIDE 3. Read (vs. 22-26) and list the reasons that Paul gives for both living and dying:

  9. DISCUSSION GUIDE 4. What is the common thread in Paul’s living or dying? He would be joyful.

  10. DISCUSSION GUIDE 5. What would it take for joy to abound in your life?

  11. DISCUSSION GUIDE 6. What does it mean to “conduct yourselves worthy of the gospel?” (v. 27) We are to be good citizens of earth and God’s kingdom. We should be loyal and responsible.

  12. DISCUSSION GUIDE 7. In what three ways does Paul emphasize unity? (v. 27b) • standing firm, no retreat • one mind, common purpose • strive together as one, team support

  13. DISCUSSION GUIDE 8. The word translated “striving together” gives us our word “athletics.” How is a community of faith like an athletic team? Each player has a role. Not all players can be the quarterback. The team must follow the playbook, the Bible. When one gets injured, others must help.

  14. DISCUSSION GUIDE 9. How are attacks from enemies a sign of salvation for Christians? (v. 28) We are promised that attacks will come to Christians, so it is evidence that the enemy does not want Christians to succeed. (v. 29)

  15. DISCUSSION GUIDE 10. What is the conflict that Paul refers to in (v. 30)? The longing to be with Christ in heaven instead of staying on earth.

  16. DISCUSSION GUIDE 11. When have you felt ready to be with the Lord? Did God redeem those times for His glory?

  17. To Live Is Christ TOGETHER (UNITY) Psalm 133:1 EMPOWERED (SPIRIT) 2 Tim. 1:7 ACCOMPLISHING (ACTION) James 2:17 MUCH (MINISTRY)

  18. “For me to live is Christ and to die is gain.”

  19. “For me to live is , to die is .”
