  24. Listening • 1. Number the scenes on the transparency. Prepare several short paragraphs like the model below and read them to the class. Have students write down the numbers of the scenes which match the activities mentioned in the paragraph. Students should write the numbers down in the order in which they hear them. • When you have finished, reread the paragraph sentence by sentence and ask the class which scene matches each one. • BEISPIEL In meiner Freizeit spiele ich oft Basketball mit meinem Bruder. • Nach der Schule spiele ich oft Gitarre, wenn das Wetter schlecht • ist. Aber wenn es schön ist, dann spiele ich auch gern Fußball. • Listening/Writing • 2. Review the vocabulary on the transparency by carefully pronouncing each activity and having students repeat. After you have had the class repeat the vocabulary a few times, take away the overlay and ask students to write down on a piece of paper the four sentences you dictate. Have each group choose three of the scenes and write a sentence for each describing the activity, when it takes place, and whether the people enjoy doing the activity. • Culture • 6. Remind students that in German-speaking countries organized sports and sporting events exist, but take place outside of school. Students in German-speaking countries usually join a club (Sportverein). Ask students which organizations exist in the U.S. that might be comparable (example: Little League baseball).
