  3. What is pollution? Pollution is the introduction of harmful materials in the environment There are 4 types of pollution: • Air • Water • Soil • Light

  4. Air Pollution Air pollution is the introduction of chemicals or biological materials that cause harm and discomfort for humans and also these materials cause damage to the natural environment.

  5. Causes of air pollution • Industries • Automobiles and Domestic fuels • High proportion of gases, such as sulfur dioxide and carbon monoxide Pollutants in the air after fertilizing goods in Arad city. Picture by Nagy Bianka

  6. How we can avoid air pollution? • Use natural gases • Use less amount of fuel in vehicles or just use hybrid cars • Avoid using electric stoves

  7. Water pollution The addition of harmful chemicals to natural water is called water pollution. This picture is taken near the river Mures in Pecica by Pintiliciuc Claudia. We can see how polluted this river is by observing the rubbishes in it.

  8. Causes of water pollution • Industrial wastes discharged in the rivers • Sewage and waste water • Burning of fossil fuels • Chemical fertilizers and pesticides We can see a picture of a small branch of the river Mures, full of rubbish. Picture by Pintiliciuc Claudia

  9. How can we avoid water pollution? • Rivers shouldn’t be used for bathing • Rivers mustn’t been contaminated • Never throw rubbish in the river • Don’t throw chemicals, oils and medicines down the sink.

  10. Land pollution The destruction of the earth’s surface and soil as a result of human activities, is called land pollution. These pictures show how dirty is the football ground in Peregu Mic. The rubbish in the rubbish bin was collected by the “Teenagers’ association” after a football match. Pictures by Nagy Bianka

  11. Causes of land pollution • Mining • Sewage waste • Household garbage • Industrial waste • Deforestation • Agricultural activities • Industrialization This picture was taken by pintiliciuc Claudia and we can see a lot of rubbish behind a mall in Arad.

How can we avoid land pollution? • Make people aware about the concept of Reduce, Recycle and Reuse • Reduce the use of pesticides and fertilizers in agricultural activities • Buy biodegradable products • Trees should be planted This picture is captured from a train on the way to Pecica from Arad by Pintiliciuc Claudia.

  13. Light pollution Light pollution is excessive, misdirected, or obtrusive artificial light. The light pollution in PereguMic is very high , we can see it on the picture. This capture was took by Nagy Bianka

  14. Causes of light pollution • Irresponsible use • Over-illumination • Excessive use of artificial light Over-illuminated church in PereguMic, picture by Nagy Bianka

  15. How can we avoid light pollution? • Install LED bulbs • Aim your outdoor lights downward • Install motion detector lights Energy efficient bulbs? It is in vain if it lightens the sky more than the park. Picture by Nagy Bianka
