Certainly the small panel is unusually perfect, particularly the wings of the angel, but documented evidence strongly suggests this predella is part of an altarpiece painted for the Cathedral of Pistoia, recorded as being a Verrocchio and executed by Lorenzo di Credi. Paintings by Leonardo are frequently attributed to Credi and vise versa as the two were studying with Verrocchio at the same time.
