  3. Munich (München) is the capital and largest city of the German state of Bavaria, the third largest city in Germany, after Berlin and Hamburg. St.Johann Nepomuk Church ("Asam Church“) is the former private church of the famous artists-brothers Cosmas Damian Asam and Egid Qurin Asam. Built from 1733 to 1746, it ranks among the finest Rococo style churches in the world. The interior is ornamented with a splendid fresco painting on the life of St.Nepomuk. Beside the church the home of E.Q.Asam.

  6. Occupying a slim space between two houses, the church is small and narrow in shape, with just 12 rows of pews

  15. The high altar features twisted columns and a wax effigy of St. John Nepomuk in a glass sarcophagus, topped with a tabernacle by Roman Anton Boos

  16. There is also a sculpture group of the Holy Trinity and medallions of the Asam brothers. A niche to the left of the altar contains a Virgin Mary by E.Q. Asam

  20. The chapel's dimly lit interior, consisting of a single narrow nave, leaves no surface undecorated

  21. Because the church was build on a central location within an urban area, with constricted space, its size is very compact, only 22m x 8m, on two floors

  24. Below the tabernacle, a relic of John of Nepomuk is kept. Two angels, sculpted by Ignaz Günther, flank the gallery altar and were added at a later date

  25. Multiple frescoes are surrounded by rich red stucco by the Asam brothers and gilded woodwork
