  1. 1 Taken from www.medium.com How to landscape around your swimming pool So you've finally realized your dream and made that swimming pool a reality in your backyard. However, you may be asking yourself-now what? If you haven't landscaped your yard around your swimming pool there are certain considerations to keep in mind. While some are merely design related others can relate to the maintenance of the pool, and even the safety of the swimmers. When you educate yourself about how to landscape around your pool you will be able to make much more effective choices. Here is what you need to know about how to landscape around your swimming pool: Consider the view from the house For both safety and aesthetics most homeowners want to have a view of the swimming pool from the house. Simply enjoying the view of the water can be beneficial and it allows you to check on swimmers. However, many homeowners only take a look at the landscaping from the pool side of things. If you don't consider the vantage point from the house then you may be left with an obstructed view of the pool, or worse yet looking at something that isn't that appealing. Consider pots that can be moved around Most swimming pools have plenty of hard edges that can benefit from having plants around them. However, you may want to consider using potted plants that can be moved around. These make pool side landscaping easier to do should you need to tend to or replace the plants. Best of all, if your pool won't be open year round you can take the plants indoors and return them outside when the warm weather comes around again. Consider how messy certain plants and trees are There are certain plants and trees that should be a considerable distance from your swimming pool. No one wants to swim through the mess that certain plants can drop into your pool and many can do serious damage to the internal workings of the pool. It is important that you check with your landscaping professional to make sure that you are not using plant material near the pool that will be messy and potentially damaging to the pool. Consider what attracts the bees and other insects While almost all plants attract bees and other insects some plants are more worse then others. You want to make sure that anyone swimming in the pool doesn't have to run through a hive of bees or a cloud of bugs just to get to the pool. While you may not be able to completely reduce the pest population you can keep it under control simply by being careful about what you are planting around your pool.

  2. 2 Taken from www.medium.com Consider safety in everything you do While you may not want to have a fence around your pool in most areas it is required. You may be tempted to skimp on safety if it increases the visual appeal of your landscaping but this is rarely a good idea. Today, there are many different options when it comes to putting in a safety fence around a swimming pool. Best of all, these fences can provide a high degree of safety while not detracting from the appearance of your landscaping. Consider the hardscaping around the pool There is a lot more to the landscaping around your pool then just the plant material. You may need to install walkways and lighting in order to make your swimming pool more accessible. It is important to choose materials for your walkways that won't get slippery when they are wet due to the fact that swimmers in all states will be coming up and down them. In addition, if you want to use your pool at night you will need to consider installing lights around the footpath and the pool for both visual appeal and safety.
