  2. Leader: Good afternoon, Pumas.  Please compose yourselves for prayer by taking a comfortable position in your chairs.  Leader: Ad Majorem  . . . All: Dei Gloriam.  Leader: We study, work and play . . . All: for the greater glory of God. 2-minute reflection Leader: We close by saying, “Glory to the Father, and to Jesus the Son, and to the Holy Spirit . . . All: as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen! ”

  5. Announcements: • Next journals due Monday, December 2nd. • Use SPELL CHECK ON YOUR ESSAYS. Final drafts due this Friday, Nov 22nd. • If you want me to check your rough draft, you must come during 9th period. • 5 question quiz on commas, semi-colons, and colons this Thursday.

SWBAT… • Revise essays • Evaluate the effectiveness of Arthur Miller’s effort to achieve his purpose in The Crucible • 8.11.7 Evaluate the effectiveness of an author’s efforts to achieve his or her purpose in a text in which the rhetoric is particularly effective and analyze how that rhetoric advances his or her purpose.

Assessment: • Open book. • READ DIRECTIONS! • When finished, turn into bin, then… • Grab a “self-checklist” sheet for your essay AND a grammar practice sheet. • Use the self-checklist sheet to check yourself and determine if you have all of the basic, most important pieces of your paper. YOU WILL TURN THIS IN WITH YOUR ESSAY ON FRIDAY. • The grammar practice sheet is optional homework to practice for your quiz.

  8. HW: • Vocab 6 due Thursday • Optional: Comma, semi-colon, colon practice sheet. • *YOU WILL NOT HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO STUDY BEFORE THE QUIZ DURING CLASS TOMORROW, SO E-MAIL ME IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS ABOUT THIS.
