  1. HXMA BL Status Update@ CLS AUM 07June 15, 2007 • XAFS: operational; • Microprobe: opening for letter of intent; • Diffraction: under commissioning.

  2. XAFS Endstation • Status: operational: • Beam modes: Mono only & M-mono-M • General User program: successfully performing general users' experiments since Jan. 2007 • Detectors available & will be available: • Straight ion chamber (CLS); • Lytle (CLS); • Single element Vortex (CLS); • 4 elements Vortex (CLS); • Single Ge detector (CLS); • 32 element Ge detector (Graham & Ingird); • Low temperature sample environment: • ARS, MIN DE-202X-G-T (CLS); • Oxford, CF1208 (Helen);

  3. GU program (XAFS) Note: In cycle#5, 11 GU experiments have performed, 1 canceled because CLS machine failure.

  4. Beam time available for cycle#6 BL commissioning time?

  5. Diffractometer & microprobe 10 x 30 mm2 (V x H) Complete control of diffractometer, point detector and Vortex through spec@ software Beamsize 10 x 30 mm2 (V x H) with Rh coated KB mirror pairs Future development: GIXRD, DAFS, SEXAFS, Resonant Anomalous Scattering Sample environment: User interface optical lens system, data collection Beam size, flux, stability Target: Letter of Intent during cycle 8. Operational in cycle 9. Target: Operational in cycle 8 (2008)

  6. Microprobe commissioning 0 3200 microns Mapping the Umangite Mineral Commissioning exercise data R Cavell, March 2007 Spot size approx 20 mm, scan step 15 mm, Excitation energy 13500 eV, Vortex silicon drift detector. Area examined (and illustrated ) approx 3200 mm× 1600 mm Software by Sam Webb (SSRL) 4100 Se Fe 0 Co Selenium in Umangite (Cu3Se2) mineral specimen 4100 As Cu Cu (line) profile

  7. Long term Development Plan (1) Plan (1): 2nd mono @ POE

  8. Wiggler relocation and Plan (2) • Preliminary planed scheduled in October • Plan (1): 2nd ID source

  9. BL maintenance • BL optical component realignment after long shutdown: • Primary slits • Mirrors and mono • Mechanical: survey • Optical (mono only & m-mono-m modes); • Modification of BL BPMs @ Frontend (1) and pOE (2); • Collimating mirror conditioning for UV and soft x-ray;

  10. BL study and upgrade • X-ray beam stability at XAFS focus point (pressure, frequency of mono cooling LN2, cooling water, turbo pump…); • BL BPM @ sOE; • BL harmonic rejection mirror; • Mono 2 detune effect; • BL single element Ge detector; • BL single element Vortex detector; • BL 4 element Vortex detector BL maintenance, BL study and upgrade needs more 10% beam time.
