  1. Psalm 51 Miracle Heart Bill Parker Cell: (703) 629-7009 Bill@ParkerLLC.com

  2. Real Life Story David’s Story • 1Then it happened in the spring, at the time when kings go out to battle, that David sent Joab and his servants with him and all Israel, and they destroyed the sons of Ammon and besieged Rabbah. But David stayed at Jerusalem. • Slothful in business and exposed to temptation (2Sam.11:1). • 2Now when evening came David arose from his bed and walked around on the roof of the king’s house, and from the roof he saw a woman bathing; and the woman was very beautiful in appearance. 3So David sent and inquired about the woman. And one said, “Is this not Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite?” • Time on his hands, wandering eye leads to lust (2Sam.11:2-3).

  3. Real Life Story David’s Story • 4David sent messengers and took her, and when she came to him, he lay with her; and when she had purified herself from her uncleanness, she returned to her house. 5The woman conceived; and she sent and told David, and said, “I am pregnant.” • Adultery (2Sam11:4-5). • 6Then David sent to Joab, saying, “Send me Uriah…”8Then David said to Uriah, “Go down to your house...” 9But Uriah slept at the door of the king’s house… and did not go down to his house… “Why did you not go down to your house?” 11Uriah said to David, “The ark and Israel and Judah are staying in temporary shelters, and (your army is in the field). Shall I then go to my house… to lie with my wife?... 13Now David called him, and he ate and drank before him, and he made him drunk… but he did not go down to his house. • Deceitful abuse of authority (2Sam.11:6, 8-11, 13).

  4. Real Life Story David’s Story • 14Now in the morning David wrote a letter to Joab and sent it by the hand of Uriah. 15He had written in the letter, saying, “Place Uriah in the front line of the fiercest battle and withdraw from him, so that he may be struck down and die.”  16So it was as Joab kept watch on the city, that he put Uriah at the place where he knew there were valiant men. 17The men of the city went out and fought against Joab, and some of the people among David’s servants fell; and Uriah the Hittite also died. • Murder (2Sam.11:14-17). • 26Now when the wife of Uriah heard that Uriah her husband was dead, she mourned for her husband. 27When the time of mourning was over, David sent and brought her to his house and she became his wife; then she bore him a son. But the thing that David had done was evil in the sight of the LORD. • Taking another man’s wife (2Sam.11:26-27).

  5. Real Life Story David’s Story • 22“After He had removed (Saul), He raised up David to be their king, concerning whom He also testified and said, ‘I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after My heart, who will do all My will.’23“From the descendants of this man, according to promise, God has brought to Israel a Savior, Jesus.” (Acts 13:22-23) 1000 Years Later, A Man After God’s Heart! A Miracle Happened Somewhere…

  6. Psalm 51 Miracle Heart Let’s Pray

  7. How Miracles Happen…

  8. Confession How Miracles Happen… • 3For I know my transgressions, And my sin is ever before me. • 4Against You, You only, I have sinned And done what is evil in Your sight, So that You are justified when You speak And blameless when You judge. • Sin is deadly serious • It must be confessed • Agree with God about it • Don’t rationalize, justify or deny it • Don’t be deceived • Remember, effective deception works • Call sin, “Sin.” Confess it!

  9. Asking for Forgiveness How Miracles Happen… • 1Be gracious to me, O God, according to Your lovingkindness; According to the greatness of Your compassion blot out my transgressions. • 2Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity And cleanse me from my sin. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (1Jn. 1:9) • 7Purify me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. 19…Since we have confidence to enter the holy place by the blood of Jesus… 22…having our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. (Heb.10:19,22)  • 9Hide Your face from my sins And blot out all my iniquities.

  10. How Miracles Happen… • Confess and turn from your sin • Ask God to forgive you • God does the miracle of creating a clean heart 15Then the LORD said to Moses, 16“…Lift up your staff and stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it, and the sons of Israel shall go through the midst of the sea on dry land.” (Ex.14:15-16) • Is this a greater miracle than the miracle of David’s heart? • Is this a greater miracle than the miracle He offers to give you a clean heart just as He did David?

  11. Faith in Your “David-Heart” Miracle • 10Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me. • God created your heart so He uniquely can make it again! • Not, “Well I guess I’m forgiven.” Instead, a completely clean heart… Made that way by God Himself • This should cause us to seek forgiveness rather than seeking to justify, rationalize or deny • Faith in a miraculously clean heart firms up your purpose/direction • 12Restore to me the joy of Your salvation And sustain me with a willing spirit. • Real faith that you have been given a completely clean heart affects your emotions. • It changes the way you feel and it gives you joy • It makes you want to do what God would have you do

  12. No Hole is Too Deep …For God (The Second Rule of Holes) • No sin too great • Consider David… • No secret sin that God doesn’t already know • He knows your frailty • He offers a clean heart, just as He did David • A heart after His own heart • There are 2 people with us today that may feel that their hole of sin is too deep • One was part of a murder • One committed adultery The Best Way to Identify Them is Through the Words of Jesus…

  13. The Sinners Revealed… • 21“You have heard that the ancients were told, ‘You shall not commit murder’ and ‘Whoever commits murder shall be liable to the court.’ 22“But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother shall be guilty before the court…” (Mt.5:21-22a) • 27“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery’; 28but I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.  (Mt.5:27-28) Me You

  14. God Looks at Our Hearts • 21“You have heard that the ancients were told, ‘You shall not commit murder’ and ‘Whoever commits murder shall be liable to the court.’ 22“But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother shall be guilty before the court…” (Mt.5:21-22a) • 27“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery’; 28but I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.  (Mt.5:27-28) Me You Me You

  15. A Heart After God’s Heart • 6Behold, You desire truth in the innermost being, And in the hidden part You will make me know wisdom. • God desires purity at the core of our thoughts… “in our innermost being” • Not accepting a sinful thought because it’s casual or socially acceptable • Not catching a sinful thought and rationalizing, justifying or denying it • Not catching a sinful thought and fixing it or trying to control it • Confessing the sinful thought and asking for God’s forgiveness • Confessing the sinful thought and getting a totally clean heart • Understand your consistent need for mercy in your innermost being • You… Receive the miracle of a clean heart • Receive purity in your innermost being • Receive the miracle of a heart after God’s heart Me You

  16. 17. A Heart After God’s Heart Be Careful Here: David’s Heart Was a Broken Heart • 17The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; A broken and a contrite heart, O God, You will not despise. 9And He also told this parable to some people who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and viewed others with contempt: (Lk.18:9-14) 11“The Pharisee stood and was praying this to himself: ‘God, I thank You that I am not like other people: swindlers, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. 12‘I fast twice a week; I pay tithes of all that I get.’ Pharisee Justified! 13“But the tax collector, standing some distance away, was even unwilling to lift up his eyes to heaven, but was beating his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me, the sinner!’  Tax Collector Not Justified “…14For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted.”

  18. A Heart After God’s Heart Be Careful Here: David’s Heart Was a Broken Heart • 17The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; A broken and a contrite heart, O God, You will not despise. Are You Consistently Aware of Your Need for a Clean Heart? 11“The Pharisee stood and was praying this to himself: ‘God, I thank You that I am not like other people: swindlers, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector.

  19. A Heart After God’s Heart Acts on the Miracle • 13Then I will teach transgressors Your ways, And sinners will be converted to You. • A Heart After God’s Heart understands its need for mercy • Understands your need of a miracle • Understands your receipt of a miracle • Is genuinely humble because of genuine need • Can honestly identify with other sinners • Understands the nearness of mercy for others • “If it’s no big deal, it’s just the way I see things, then it’s not a big deal for me to tell others either.” • Understands the miracle that can be offered to others • Moses held up the rod for himself, but more importantly, he held it up for others • Will you keep this miracle to yourself?
