Biopoem Pattern – ON BB Line 1: First name Line 2: Four traits that describe person/character Line 3: Relative [brother, sister, daughter, etc.} of— Line 4: Lover of — [list three things or people] Line 5: Who feels — [three items] Line 6: Who needs — [three items] Line 7: Who fears — [three items] Line 8: Who gives — [three items] Line 9: Who studies - [content area in which you work] Line 10: Who would like to see — [three items] Line 11: Resident of — Line 12: Last name (Hint: You can omit one line of your choice – but not your name!)

  10. Think Write • Think about your literacy experiences in middle and high school. Did you like to read? If so, what did you read? Did you read outside of school? If you didn’t read or didn’t like to read, what did you do instead of reading? If you attitude toward reading changed, what changed it?

  11. Pick up a strategy; put it in your pocket (for homework): Chapter Mapping • Preview text assigned – How many sections? • On one side of one sheet of paper – divide the area into as many sections as you previewed. • Head each section – sub-section with the titles used in chapter • Record the most important ideas and information in your chapter map – this is your ticket in the door on Thursday

Assignments for Thursday (9/6) • Write your own Biopoem & upload your assignment to the Biopoem link on BB • Bring a hardcopy to class next Thursday • Read Ch. 1 pp. 1-22 – Use Chapter Mapping [see ppt on BB] • Read Ch. 3 pp. 50-56; 60-70 • Read Moje (2008) OR Wilson (2011) on BB • Focus on descriptions of literacy in each discipline • Think about one goal you have for this course
