  2. Biblical Points • Who was Beelzebub? • Beelzebub – Aramaic meaning “Lord of the Flies” • Beelzebul – “slang” meaning “Lord of the Dung” • Greek New Testament using the word Beelzebul but English uses Beelzebub • Canaanite God – “Prince of the House of Devils”

  3. Biblical Points • Illness/disease/physical ailments was caused by Satan (sin invites Satan into one’s life) • “Strong Man” was a person who always carried a weapon to protect his treasure

  4. For us today • What is blasphemy against the Holy Spirit? • Toss out the definitions you have been told

  5. Original Meaning of Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit Using the Scripture – Matthew 12:22-32 Demon possessed man brought to Jesus Jesus accused of doing good works by the power of Satan Jesus cures the man If a demon of Satan (or by Satan) possessed the man, why would another demon of Satan cure him? Would not happen – “house divided”

  6. God empowers healers Who empowers Healers in Israel? Jesus wants to create unity through good thus removing evil Satan wants to cause disunity by lies and false accusations

  7. You cannot defeat a person armed with God’s Word “Strong Man” is symbolic of Jesus equipped with the Word of God Add the following for today: When people do good works but are driven by self-centered interests or doing good works with negative intent is blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is if one believed that good works can come from Satan because good works only come from God

  8. For us today • Doing “good” with evil intentions is blasphemy because “good” only comes from God.
