  2. Introduction • The Trial • High Priest and Sanhedrin

  3. Culture • Jesus was from Galilee • People in Jerusalem did not understand him • “Son of God”  title of honor and distinction • “Son of Man”  title of a peasant

  4. Culture • “Coming in the clouds of Heaven”  a mission will succeed with great honor • “Sitting at the Right Hand of God”  people will see that God was backing Jesus’ mission • High Priest teaching his clothes • Spitting in the face  mockery

  5. Biblical Point • No testimony was found; Jesus was not the revolutionary the Sanhedrin called Him • Jesus was quite like in the Garden • Jesus being hit then asked who did it (blindfold missing) • JoesphCaiphas – high priest (19 – 36 CE); was from the House of Kaipha

  6. For Us today • Jesus was a man of peace who lived in a sinful world • Can we recognize evil? Actions reveal a lot • Evil can be confronted • Love and grace can conquer evil
