  1. Holiday Crafts for Kids

  2. Core Curriculum • Standard 1 (Making): The student will explore and refine the application of media, techniques, and artistic processes. • Objective 1 Explore a variety of art materials while learning new techniques and processes. • Differentiate between foreground, middle ground, and background in the production of artwork. • Observe objects in detail and portray them with greater accuracy in works of art. • Simplify the beginning of a work of art, using start-up skills; e.g., blocking-in, gesture drawing, stick figures.

  3. Make sure to ask mom or dad before you start any of these projects

  4. Apple Sauce Ornaments • Use to decorate presents • Use to decorate trees • Makes your house smell like cinnamon

  5. Apple Sauce Ornaments Prep Time: 10 Min Ready In: 10 Min Recipe Yield 15 ornaments   Ingredients 3 cups applesauce 3 cups ground cinnamon Directions Mix applesauce and cinnamon together until it is thick enough to hold a form when cut into cookie cutter shapes. Flatten the mixture on a flat surface and cut into cookie cutter shapes. Place cookie shapes on a cookie sheet to dry for 3 to 4 days depending on the size and thickness of the cookies. If using as a hanging ornament, make hole with toothpick before drying.

  6. Salt Dough Ornaments • Fun to make • Paint or decorate any way you want • Makes a nice gift

  7. Salt Dough Ornaments Recipe Snowman Prep Time: 30 minutes Cook Time: 4 hours Total Time: 4 hours, 30 minutes Ingredients 2 cups flour 1 cup salt 1 cup warm water Instructions Mix together flour and salt. Then mix in the warm water. Mix until you have a dough that is similar in consistency to pie crust. Take the dough and place it on a floured surface. Roll out the dough until it is about 1/4 inch thick. Use cookie cutters to cut out shapes. If you don't have cookie cutters you could use a glass to cut circles. Put the shapes on a cookie sheet. Then take a sharp object (I used a meat thermometer) to put a small hole in each shape where you will insert the ribbon. Make sure the hole goes all the way through the dough, because it will close up slightly while baking. Bake the salt dough ornaments for 4 to 6 hours at 200 degrees or until hardened.
