  1. Ministry of Transport, Public Works and Water Management Road and Hydraulic Engineering Institute The advisor for technique and environment for road and hydraulic engineering Delft, The Netherlands

  2. Centrifuge modelling of soil upheave by expanding tubes B.G.H.M. Wichman Project manager And H.G.B. Allersma University of Delft The Netherlands

  3. Soil upheave by expanding tubes Principle of the method: Expanders are placed in or below the road embankment By controlled injection of light weight suspension in the expanders the road surface is levelled Also injection directly in subsoil is useful

  4. Soil upheave by expanding tubes Why? The conventional technique of levelling the road surface causes additional traffic jams Compensation grouting techniques are well developed Costs of traffic jams can be calculated and are consirable for busy roads

  5. Soil upheave by injection Experience: Small road lifted 20 cm Tree lifted 30 cm Pilot with motorway was partly successful Centrifuge tests at University of Delft gave insight Numerical modelling turned out to be useful
