Welcome to the French Revolution!Unit Summary Using technology, students will complete aof study covering the Three Estates, the rise of the “people”, the fall of the monarchy, the Reign of Terror, Napoleon’s coup and subsequent rule, and the return of a limited monarchy. They will gain understanding concerning how far some go to become free and how many loose sight of their goal.

  3. Standards Addressed Students will analyze the ideas of social equality, democracy, constitutionalism, and nationalism brought about by the Enlightenment and their effects on political institutions

  4. Student Objectives This unit focuses on the causes and influences, the pivotal characters, and the lasting effects the French Revolution had on world history. What is the Third Estate? Nothing!

  5. Essential Question Why were revolutions fought?

  6. Unit Questions • How and for what reasons have revolutions occurred in history and what have been their consequences? • How was the Old Regime Structured? • Why did discontent grow in the mid-1700’s? • Explain why Louis XVI wanted to call the Estates General. • How did the meeting of the Estates General push France toward revolution?

  8. Assessment TimelineBefore Students Begin to Work • Watch The French Revolution on youtube.com/historyteachers/Frenchrevolution. Discuss how the facts were presented. • To help students understand the haves/have notsof France in the 1700s, I will eat snacks at my desk with four students. Observe, then discuss reactions of other students relating to the social groups known as the Three Estates .

Assessment TimelineProjects and Completed Tasks • Students will complete unit vocabulary. • Students will create a virtual bumper sticker supporting the French Revolution and post it to the class web site. • Students will complete a three-way Venn Diagram describing the Three Estates. • Upon completing a Webquest students will create a daily blog in the persona of someone from one of the Estates during the Reign of Terror. • Keeping the persona, students will comment on other’s entries.

  10. After Project Work is Completed • Students will complete unit vocabulary. • Students will create a virtual bumper sticker supporting the French Revolution and post it to the class web site. • Students will complete a three-way Venn Diagram describing the Three Estates. • Students will create a daily blog in the persona of someone from one of the Estates during the Reign of Terror. • Keeping the persona, students will comment on other’s entries.
