  1. Growing Deeper Reaching Higher You’ve got the Time Week 3 Who am I?

  2. Matthew 16:13-18. When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, ‘Who do people say the Son of Man is?’ They replied, ‘Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.’ ‘But what about you?’ he asked. ‘Who do you say I am?’

  3. Simon Peter answered, ‘You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.’ Jesus replied, ‘Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven. And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.’

  4. In the beginning was the WORD. John puts Jesus right there along side Father God from before the dawn of all creation. • John’s account is much less of a story of Jesus’ Life, he supplements the other accounts and concentrates on the meaning of what took place.

  5. The other 3 gospels focus on events mainly in Galilee, most of the events in John take place in and around Jerusalem at the various festival times. • John records mainly what Jesus said about himself in the 7 great ‘I am’ sayings.

  6. John selects from Jesus’ many miracles certain ‘signs’ which show most clearly who He was. I am the bread of life. Sign: Fed 5,000. I am the resurrection and the life. Sign: Raised Lazarus from the dead.

  7. I AM…….. • The bread of life 6:35 • The light of the world 8:12 • The gate for the sheep 10:7 • The good shepherd 10:14 • The resurrection and the life 11:25 • The way, the truth and the life 14:6 • The true vine 15:1

  8. This simple statement ‘I AM’ made the link between Jesus and His heavenly father.

  9. Exodus 3: 14 God said to Moses, ‘I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I AM has sent me to you.’ Exodus 20:2 ‘I am the Lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt.’

  10. Don’t lose sight of who He is! • Peter denied Jesus 3 times,18:17, 25-27. • Thomas doubted, 20:24 – 25. • They all went fishing, 21:1-3.

  11. Conclusion • Realising who God is will help us fulfil who we are! • When difficult times come don’t lose heart • Your best days are in front of you • God has not finished with you yet!
