  1. Welcome! • The students of EGL 102 section 005 would like to present the results of their research papers. • Let’s start with Defining the Problem Speaker: Adrian Emmanuel

Defining the Problem • The problem is that a significant number of college students do not earn a bachelor’s degree. • When they drop out of college they may be burdened with student loans to pay. • Without a good job, these loans may be hard to pay and go into default. Speaker: Daniela Bonzholova

Defining the Problem (Continued) • The college dropout may then find it hard to buy a car or house (economy is affected). • If too many college students drop out, the U.S. may fall behind as a superpower. • The U.S. may be forced to depend on other nations to bring in a learned workforce.   4. Explaining the Goals • Our main goal is to find out which factors play a role in keeping a student from obtaining the bachelor’s degree • Each student designed a hypothesis • From these hypotheses, we decided to research the following questions. Speaker: Adrian Bucur

  15. 4 hour seminar (9-1) On a Saturday Once a semester (week 12) For Oakton students who are about to transfer Spacious conference room with circular tables of 5 seats per table Hosted by Office of Advising and Counseling and Trained Students Purpose is to share with students the obstacles they are about to face at their new college/university (backed up by research) Purpose is to get students to have a plan of action for when they face these obstacles Our proposed Degree Completion Seminar Speaker: Cynthia Rajjani

Degree Completion Seminar Agenda • 9:00 to 10:00: breakfast, introduction of guest speakers, • ice-breaker for tables of students. • 10:00 to 11:00: presentation of research results by various speakers • 11:15 to 12:00: students discuss each research area by table with a trained discussion leader. • 12:00 to 1:00: students discuss solutions to problem areas and share with entire room Speaker: Dona Veliyathuparambil

  17. Degree Completion Seminar • Marketing this 4 hour seminar will be key • My Oakton Portal Page can be used • Flyers posted at strategic places • Registration for seminar added to graduation invitation • Booklets/Brochures at Office of Advising and Counseling Speaker: Hina Valiani

  18. One marketing project we can give now! • Each student in this class has designed a brochure for the seminar • We are giving the brochures to the college • Use them with our permission Speaker: Bhaumik Ankleswaria
