  2. WIKIS 1 70% of Wikipedia’s traffic comes from search engines (Presscott, 2007). Google is the source of 50% of Wikipedia’s traffic. Wikipedia has become a sort of “authoritative” source that people turn when they search for encyclopedic information. WIKIS 1 Wikis are web applications which enable multiple authors to add, remove, and edit content in a process of collaborative authoring - usually through WYSIWYG controls that resemble those of a word processor or blog. It was first established in 1995 as WikiWikiWeb, now there are currently hundreds of wikis covering topics ranging from geology and physics to food and travel. The name comes from the Hawaian term wiki wiki, meaning quick and informal.
