Project: ‘The Personal Web and Jobseekers with Disabilities’ Business-Training Provider partnership • NMIT Work Education Centre & NorthStar Employment • CHALLENGES • Privacy & Consent to publish • Explaining the nature of the project, Web2.0 concepts and privacy/permissions to parents and students. • Restricting identifying information (name/images only) and how NorthStar staff control what is viewed by employers. • How to best represent employability skills for our students • Keeping Employability Skills ‘language’ simple and the evidence auditory/visual. • Working to limitations of Blogger.com • Deciding on key elements for inclusion, how to best represent these? • Not using the website in isolation, not a ‘one-stop-shop’ e-portfolio. • Technical requirements • Enabling access, training and support for project wiki, Blogger.com and supporting software. • Optimising electronic media to best suit objective of website.

Project: ‘The Personal Web and Jobseekers with Disabilities’ Business-Training Provider partnership • NMIT Work Education Centre & NorthStar Employment • SUCCESSES • Test website and website plan developed (phase 1) • Website plan outlines key elements for inclusion to suit needs and goals of NMIT and NorthStar. • Highly visual system for our learners, a repository for demonstrated competence and growth, provides medium for students to reflect on learning. • Consent to participate obtained for pilot group of students • After individual face-to-face or telephone contact, high interest from students and parents. Parents very interested in seeing students on placement and assisting in skills development. • Increased understanding of organisational structures, practices and protocols • Project opened ongoing discussion to improve partnership & outcomes for students. • Up-skilling of NMIT and NorthStar project staff • Successfully commenced and embraced by project team.
