Enterprise Development Fund Support to you to develop enterprise initiatives through the University Knowledge Escalator • A regional programme helping raise enterprising capabilities within Universities • Funding provided by SWRDA and ERDF and runs until Sept 2011 • Support for a portfolio of activities • Enterprise support for staff (e.g. Enterprise Change Academy, Enterprise Masterclass, NEDs) • Enterprise support for students (e.g. Employer Mentoring, BUG, Glos Entrepreneurs...) • Innovation support for staff and students (e.g. USWEA) • Regional engagement The Knowledge Escalator Project is part financed by the European Union’s ERDF Competitiveness and Employment Programme 2007-13 securing £1,833,000 of ERDF investment through the South West Regional Development Agency (SWRDA).

4. Enterprise Development Fund Knowledge Fellowship • Financial support for collaborative working between an academic and business • Open to members of the University’s staff • The Knowledge Fellowship scheme is designed to help enhance knowledge exchange between those in business and those in academia, supporting opportunities for working together on collaborative projects as a foundation for longer-term collaboration and development. • The collaboration should target businesses that would benefit from a significant interaction at the level of a knowledge fellow, with potential for significant benefit to the business, the academic and the University.

5. Enterprise Development Fund Knowledge Fellowship • Awards of up to £5k to support a collaborative project between the University and an external business • Funding can be used to support your time and/or associated costs, or that of an external business, in working on a collaborative project • 100% additional cost • Grant rather than loan

6. Enterprise Development Fund Knowledge Fellowship Criteria • Significant benefit to the business from the interaction and an ongoing relationship • Benefit to the academic through greater business awareness, linkages, capacity for future engagement • Strong knowledge, background and motivation of Knowledge Fellow • Potential for follow-on activity and funding • Potential to generate significant value to the business • Aligned with UoG and regional priorities

7. Enterprise Development Fund Proof of Concept • Provides financial support at the early stages of developing an idea that may have commercial potential. • The funding could be used for example to develop a business plan, market test an idea, develop a prototype, undertake a pilot etc • Its aim is to help you move an enterprising idea from concept to its next stage • Open to members of the University’s staff and also to students.

8. Enterprise Development Fund Proof of Concept • Awards of typically £5k-£8k to help you develop an idea you have, that may have commercial potential • Smaller awards can be made, or larger awards where there is potential for substantial commercial returns • Eligible costs could include consultancy fees (e.g. for feasibility study, develop business plan), market research, technical developments, prototype, experimentation or piloting, IP evaluation or protection… • 100% additional cost • Grant rather than a loan

9. Enterprise Development Fund Proof of Concept Criteria • Clear commercial application and indication of market need • Progressing something new • Competitive advantage • Due consideration of Intellectual Property issues • Strong knowledge, background and motivation of applicant • Potential for follow-on funding • Potential for business or job creation or licensing potential • Aligned with UoG and regional priorities

Enterprise Development Fund Next Steps for both Knowledge Fellowships & PoC • Contact Centre for Enterprise & Innovation to discuss your idea or with any questions cei@glos.ac.uk 01242 714104 • Submit an Application Form, outlining your proposed collaboration (Knowledge Fellowship) or idea (Proof of Concept) with a breakdown of estimated costs • Application Forms available from CEI or from www.glos.ac.uk/epic • Calls for applications will be made and evaluated quarterly, though you are free to submit an application at any time. • A selection panel will evaluate applications and feed back to you • Please note successful applicants will need to provide evidence as to the use of grants awarded, in support of the reporting requirements of SWRDA and the ERDF
