    4. The Compounded Problem Most parents do not speak Spanish External resources don’t take into account differences in textbook vocabulary

    6. Why It Will Be Effective Opportunity to Learn Supportive Environment Thoughtful Discourse Individualization of Instruction

    7. Opportunity to Learn Students have more opportunity to learn, practice and review Student participation can extend beyond the classroom Student learning and practice is no longer bound be access to text or teacher

Supportive Environment On-line learning helps build the learning community Students have time to prepare their responses in advance Students have less anxiety since the class is not staring at them Teachers can support and encourage individual learning without drawing the attention of the rest of the class

    9. Thoughtful Discourse Discussion prompts require students to apply their current and old vocabulary and skills Students read and respond to each other’s comments Allows students time to process before responding

    10. Individualization of Instruction Students can learn at a time and location that fits their style Students can participate in the discussions that interest them Students that need extra help can take advantage of the review activities
