  3. Factor • A number multiplied to give a product; for example, 3 and 5 in 3 X 5

  4. Product • The answer in a multiplication problem

  5. Use basic facts and patterns to find products • Find 400 X 700 • Basic fact is 4 X 7 = 28 • Pattern: 4 X 70 = 280 4 X 700 = 2800 40 X 700 = 2,8000 400 X 700 = 280,000

  6. You can count the zeros in the factors • Step 1: Find the Basic Fact 4 X 7 = 28 • Step 2: Count the number of zeros in each factor. • 400 X 700 • 2 Zeros + 2 zeros= 4 zeros • Step 3: Write the zeros to the right of the product in Step 1 • 400 X 700 = 280,000 Zeros From Step 2 Product from Step 1
