  1. Wizards of Perfilpgs. 44-end What is Link saying to us in this quote on pg. 44 1.)“Take that path,” Essa said. “The muddiest one. And stay on it. There's a pier out that way where the fishing is good.” 2.)What do the 2 rich women on the train, as well as the woman with four silk dresses, tell us about war? When is the king’s enemy expected to reach Perfil? What do the passengers say about the king and his army?

  2. 3.)On pg. 46, what are 3 theme topics you see addressed in the middle paragraph? • On the same pg, how does Onion respond to Halsa’s persistent warnings and nagging to do something? • What does Halsa find and give to Tolcet? • Who does Tolcet then call and why? • 4.)Is there a metaphor here? (maybe even a little cliché)

  3. Pg. 47 Describe the doll. • Who is Onion irritated with on pg. 53 and why? • 5.)What does the doll represent? • 6.)What do you make of Onion not wanting it? • 7.)What’s the “black stuff” on pg. 54-55?

  4. 8.)Who do you think Link has in mind when she has Halsa ask Tolcet how he “can serve men and women who hide in towers and do nothing to help people who need help? What good is magic if it doesn’t serve anyone?” (56). • 9.)Why can’t Halsa see anything after her family’s train explodes?

  5. On pg. 57, who/what do the dragons on the path represent? • 10.)What does Essa mean when she says, “You have to be firm with them. Otherwise they get inside your head and make you feel as if you deserve to be eaten.” • 11.)How can you relate that to Maslow’s hierarchy?

  6. What happened with the fox and for what might this be an allegory in the real world? • Who in the end really saves the fox? • What is Link saying about war on pg. 68?

  7. What is the last straw that makes Halsa march up to the tower to demand the Wizards do more to help? • What happened to the original Wizards?
