CCRPICollege and Career Ready Performance Index The College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI) is the measure for accountability in the State of Georgia. A school’s performance is graded on a scale of 0-100, with the opportunity to earn 10 challenge points. The CCRPI measures student participation and achievement on statewide assessments and other indicators. The State of Georgia, each local school district, and each individual school is held accountable for the academic success of its students. Schools are scored in four areas: Achievement, Progress, Achievement Gap, and Challenge Points. The current CCRPI score is actually a reflection of the 2013-2014 school year. Buford Middle School’s rating indicates strong growth and achievement. The current BMS CCRPI score is 90.1, which is among the top scores in the state. The State of Georgia average for middle schools is 71.2.
CCRPICollege and Career Ready Performance Index School Climate Rating uses data from student, parent, and school personnel surveys, along with student discipline, and attendance records for students and school personnel. Each school will receive a 1-5 star rating, with five stars representing an excellent school climate, and one star representing a school climate most in need of improvement. Buford Middle School’s current School Climate Rating is five stars.

Parent Involvement Plan: We encourage parents to be a part of the school day. Many activities are planned throughout the school year and parents are invited to attend and volunteer. Parent Involvement • Make sure your child gets proper sleep and a healthy breakfast during the school week • Praise your child’s efforts and success; talk about their dreams for the future • Visit your child’s teachers’ webpages • Email your child’s teacher with questions or concerns; conference with the teacher • Check your child’s grades often; ask child about their day and homework each night
PowerSchool • Accounts for parents & students • Information is available on our website • Look under the Parent Information tab for PowerSchool • Parent Account Information • Create an account using the Access ID & Access Password • Please call front office from 7-3 for this information • Link all of your students throughout the system to your one account • Set up account to receive weekly updates
Attendance • Improving attendance, tardies and checkouts is a school improvement goal of Buford Middle School • A written excuse within 2 days of an absence must be sent – you may email the excuse to Gabby.Moretti@bufordcityschools.org • 5 or more days absent in a school year will result in contact from Mrs. Childers or Mrs. Winter and/or school social worker
Keys to Success • Complete all assignments on time. • Bring your books, binder, paper, and pencils to class every day. • Keep your notebooks up to date and organized. • Follow school rules. • Don’t give up!
General Information • School starts at 7:20. • Students will report to bus duty in the gym when they arrive for school. • Students are tardy at 7:30. If you are not in your 1st period teacher’s classroom by the 7:30 bell, you must report to the para-pro on the hall for a tardy slip. • 1st period begins at 7:30!!!
Agendas • The student agendas are used for • Helping students stay organized • Hall passes • Parent communication • Organizational Mark page (taped in the back of the agenda) • Please check agendas every day.

Class Interruptions • In order to maximize classroom instruction, the office is minimizing classroom interruptions. • Students will not be called to the office to pick up lunches, books, projects, etc.
Organizational Marks OM’s will be given for minor infractions like chewing gum, being late to class (without a pass), being unprepared for class, not following directions, and not having homework completed. After you receive 5 OM’s, we will call home and your student will have silent lunch.
Organizational marks After 10 OM’s, we will call home, and your student will have afterschool detention. He or she will lose the Grade Level reward (Kickball or Dodgeball tournament, movie, etc.). If your student receives an 11th OM, he/she will receive an office referral.
Discipline • Any behavior that disrupts the learning environment of other students or prevents the teacher from continuing the lesson will result in consequences for the student on the grade level discipline sheet. Late Work Policy • Ten points per day will be deducted for late assignments for up to two days. Late assignments will not be accepted after the second day. • Math homework assignments will NOT be accepted past the due date. Because the daily lessons build on previous lessons, math homework must be completed each night.

BMS Technology Policy • Cell phones, music devices, cameras, and other communication devices shall not be seen, used, or heard during school hours unless directed by the teacher. • These devices must be used for instructional purposes only. • Devices should be turned off and placed in lockers for the entirety of the day unless directed by the teacher for a specific period.
BMS Technology Policy • Students in violation of this expectation will have their device collected and stored in the main office for parent pickup. • Violators will receive disciplinary consequences. • The school is not responsible for any lost, damaged, or stolen communication device.
7th Grade Technology Policy • Technology may not be used without your teacher’s approval. • Students may go only to sites that the teacher has given permission to use. • NO SOCIAL MEDIA may be used at school.
Standardized Dress Code • Look for detailed information in the back of the student agenda (blue page). • Friday spirit wear is a privilege and not a guarantee. It is earned if a student has no absences, no tardies, no check outs, and is in dress code every day that week. • Please note that pink is not a dress code color. The color pink with a Buford insignia or logo is only appropriate on Fridays if a student has earned spirit wear for that week.
Dress Code shirts may have an emblem on them that is no larger than a quarter, as long as the emblem is in school colors.
Magnet • We are selling magnetic buttons that students may wear to cover their emblem if it is not in school colors. • They are being sold for $2 (in the Media Center during school hours).
Attendance and Dress Code • Students will receive a on the monthly calendar in their agenda for: • Tardies • Check outs • Absences • Dress code infractions • It is the student’s responsibility to check their agenda to see if they have earned spirit wear for the week.
7th Grade Newsletter • A link to our weekly newsletter will be emailed each Friday. • The newsletter will provide important grade level news, upcoming dates, and specific subject area information. • The newsletter link is emailed via PowerSchool, so please make sure you email information is up-to-date.
Fall Field Trip to… • Students are going to see a play performed by The Aurora Theatre in Lawrenceville this fall. This gives students the opportunity to see a professional theatre production, as well as learn appropriate theatre etiquette. • Details will be coming home soon.
Spring Field Trip • May 10th at Zoo Atlanta & Hard Rock Café • We will travel in charter buses • We need parent chaperones. • Must have a background check on file with BCSS. • Information will be sent as soon as details are finalized
Discipline/Attendance Requirements for Field Trips Although field trips are optional, we would like for every student to attend. However, students who have had discipline (suspension) or attendance problems (15 or more days absent) will not be eligible.

FALL FESTIVAL • Fall Festival will be on October 6thfrom 5:00-8:00 pm • Needed: donations for baskets (either items or money) Football Frenzy: A House Divided Football paraphernalia, tailgating goodies, etc. from all teams (yes, even GA Tech and Florida) Around Town Gift Cards: Gift cards from local businesses for a day of shopping pleasure Car Wash: Soap, Wax, Armor All, etc. For that sparkling clean car Family Fun Night: Games, Movies, Popcorn, Movie Tickets, etc, for a fun night with those you love. Girly Girl Basket: Hair bows, hair care, spa supplies, ulta supplies, lotions, lipsticks, nail polish, etc.
