  2. SIGHTS COLOSSEUM The Colosseum is an oval amphitheatre in the centre of the city of Rome, Italy. It is the largest amphitheatre ever built. The Colosseum is situated just east of the Roman Forum.

  3. Leaning Tower of Pisa • The Leaning Tower of Pisa is the belltower, of the cathedral of the Italiancity of Pisa, known worldwide for its unintended tilt. The tower is situated behind the Pisa Cathedral and is the third oldest structure in the city's Cathedral Square.

  4. RELIGION • The major religion in Italy is Roman Catholicism. This is not surprising, as Vatican City, located in the heart of Rome, is the hub of Roman Catholicism and where the Pope resides. Roman Catholics and other Christians make up 80 percent of the population, though only one-third of those are practicing Catholics.

  5. CUISINE Italian cuisine has influenced food culture around the world and is viewed as a form of art by many. Wine, cheese and pizza are important part of Italian meals. Pasta comes in a wide range of shapes, widths and lengths, including penne, spaghetti, linguine, fusilli and lasagna.

  6. CELEBRATIONS Apart from the well-known celebrations all over the world the Italian calendar has its own celebrations. Italians celebrate with events like parades and markets. Some of the most popular local festivities include: • April 25th in Venice (Saint Mark) • June 24th in Florence • Genoa and Turin (St. John the Baptist) • June 29th in Rome (Saints Peter and Paul) • September 19th in Naples (Saint Gennaro) • December 7th in Milan (Saint Ambrogio)

  7. COSTUMES • Italian peasants wore practical clothing for their daily activities, with simple pants and shirts for the men and blouses and skirts for the women, sometimes with a bodice. Most items were made from simple fabrics, wool being very common. • The clothes worn by wealthy Italian women looked like peasants’ garb, but they used richer fabrics like silk and velvet. Upper-class Italian women also tended to wear more jewelery than peasants.
