  2. Egyptians thought that when a person died their soul would journey into the underworld to be judged. So that meant that their body had to be perfectly preserved. This meant they had to use a system of preserving called mummification. This system was mostly only for Pharaohs.

  3. Steps of mummification Mummification had steps and here are the steps. Step one: The Egyptians would wash and shave the body. Step two: They would then remove and break down the brain with a hook and remove it trough the nose. Step three: Then they would turn the body over so the brain would flow out.

  4. Step four: The Egyptians would take out all the organs except the heart because the heart was needed in the afterlife. They put the other organs in four Canopic jars so that the sons of the god Horus would protect the organs. Step five: Salt was poured onto the body for about 40 days when the salt was removed the body would be darker and thinner. Step six: After the body was washed the open parts of the body were filled With resin soaked linen. Step seven: Later make-up, a wig, oil and resin were applied to the body and golden plates with a wedjat eye were placed on the persons wounds to protect it.

  5. Step eight: Incense was waved in the air to purify the air. Step nine: The body would be swaddled in linen between the linen would be special charms called amulets.
