  6. Greetings • Open, welcoming, learning organization! • One mind’s view vs. many minds’ view. • Leader as change agent-understand the leader.

  7. Halton Values/Beliefs • Rich in Tradition, Progressive in Practice, Building our Future Together. • Mission Statement- “highest quality education…prepares our students…citizens of the global community” • 10 Guiding Principles.

  8. Halton Values/Beliefs • Created and approved: 2000. • Organization has evolved since then. • Modified vision to be completed: Jan/Feb 2007. • Interim position of “no rules” is not fair to workers/stakeholders. • My “rocks” in terms of values and beliefs.

  9. Complexity/Simplicity • Education is very complex because it is relational. • Deal with complexity by “chunking” into simplified models. • Don’t ever forget that it is complex when dealing with simplified models.

Respect • Things ~ • Past: Structures (ie HEPA/HSPA) “Halton existed and thrived well before WJ…” • Present: Commitment to a Professional Learning Community – “SEPs, SMART Goals and data-driven decision-making are exemplary.” • Future: Oriented toward integration of learning outcomes – communication, environmental stewardship, global awareness, and their relationship to literacy and numeracy as well as other goals

  15. Relationships • Parents, School Councils ~Parents play a key role in the education of our youth. Do we consult with them at the outset… or let them know after the fact? Do we involve them in a real and effective manner to help us with our goals of raising the bar and closing the gap?

They view it as socially important and economically wise. “Are we invitational and open or institutional and closed?” • Halton Learning Foundation – “Barriers Fund” and other initiatives. “How can we harness the efforts of a trained and dedicated staff to maximize value for our students?”

Relationships • Community Partners ~ • Halton Region, Municipalities, Libraries, CAS, Hospitals… “Are we invitational, transparent and flexible in our community partnerships?” • Regional Campus Project“How do we reduce costs and increase effectiveness of services through partnerships with our community partners?”
