  2. FOLKTALE Tenali Raman and the Great Pundit he took all his belongings and left the city before sunrise. He left a note for the king saying that he had never heard of the great book. The next day, at the appointed time Tenali appeared in court for the debate. But he was informed that the pundit had already gone away. The king being a learned man wanted to read the great book that Tenali had mentioned, so he asked Tenali about it. Tenali laughed and replied that there was no such book called ‘Thilakashta Mahisha Bandhanam’. Inside the bundle, there was til which is called Thila in Sanskrit and some sheep dung which in Sanskrit is known as Kashta. These contents were tied by a rope made of bufalo’s hide which is called Mahisha. Bandhanam refers to ‘tying’ in Sanskrit. This is how Tenali tricked the pundit into believing that there was a great book that the pundit was completely unaware of. The king appreciated Tenali’s intelligence and rewarded him. Once, a great pundit from a foreign land visited King Krishna Deva Raya’s court. He claimed that he had knowledge of all subjects and was an expert in every feld. He challenged that he could argue with all of his wise ministers and defeat them. The king accepted his challenge. The proceeded to argue with the learned men of the kingdom on various subjects. The king’s ministers failed miserably. Then, the king summoned his wisest minister, Tenali Raman. Tenali took a small bundle from his home, gave it the shape of a book and tied it up. Then, he went to the court and announced that he was ready to argue against the pundit but on the condition that the topic of their debate would be based on the great book ‘Thilakashta Mahisha Bandhanam.’ The great pundit was stumped when he heard this because he had never heard of any such book. He asked the king to give him one night’s time to prepare for the argument. He was sleepless all night. He could not bear the thought of losing so pundit then

  3. FIND ten butterflies in the picture Pondering How old is an antique? An antique is an object or work of art which is rare and hence considered a collectable item. The origin of the word ‘antique’ is from the latin word antiquus meaning ‘old, ancient, old-fash- ioned’. Antiques can include furniture, jewelry, art work, carpets, books, etc. As a common rule of thumb, objects that are 100 years or older are considered antiques. Old objects are often slotted under one of three categories – antiques, collectables or vintage. However, their value is not based on this categorisation. It is based on its demand in the market. An antique is an object more than 100 years old, collectables are old but less than 100 years old and vintage items are those that are less than 25 years old or have come back into fashion. Corner 2

  4. Sam Visits Norway's Trolltunga Hike Discover A New Place I’m on another hike! And what you see behind me is the view from Trolltunga! One of the most scenic clifs in Norway. I’ve surprised myself again, by under- taking this risky hike up a clif that is 1100 metres above sea level. Trolltunga is a clif that juts out hori- zontally 700 m above the river Ringed- alsvatnet in the Odda municipality in Hordaland County, Norway. And the view from up here is simple breathtak- ing! This is a long hard hike that can only be undertaken from around mid-June to mid-September, because that is the time when enough snow melts. My fellow hikers tell me that the clif was formed nearly 10000 years ago, in the ice age! How awesome is that?! To hike here, you have to be in really good shape and you also have to be a good hiker because this is one risky hike! No safety railings have been constructed here so as to not harm the natural beauty, although there are some metal hooks and footholds to help climb down to the actual rock. If you plan to stay overnight, you have to carry your own tent and supplies. And don’t forget to bring a compass! There are, of course, guided tours that ofer relatively safe biking and hiking activities. Best to opt for those if you’re not 100% confdent. 6. Meditation Helps! Healthy Me Meditation is an important habit to start early. The most common types of medita- tion involve concentration on breathing or movement. Yoga is a well-known move- ment-based meditation and is great as an introduction to meditation. It involves focus on movements and breathing and works great for beginners. Any session of yoga always ends with a few minutes of meditation to bring the mind into a rested state. If you feel it is not possible to fnd the time or space to practice yoga or to fnd someone to help, another alternative is to focus on breathing-based meditation. Don't expect to sit longer than 5-7 minutes on your frst week or two of breathing based meditation as it is not possible. It's easy to get distracted and it isn't easy to stop the mind from wandering. Work on having short spans of concentrated meditation rather than long periods of distracted meditation. As the saying goes, it is quality rather than quantity. Meditation plays an important role in bringing the mind at peace, and in turn, emo- tions and the body follow.

  8. comic story einstien iyengar On the evening of Martin’s birthday, almost the entire class was invited. The party was at Martin’s father’s estate so there was plenty of space. However, the children started to get bored and began leaving. Martin went to Eeshan and said, “They are leaving. How do I make them stay? They are getting bored.” 7

  9. Eeshan said, “Don’t worry. Einstein Iyengar has a gift for you and it will make everyone stay and enjoy!” Eeshan set out a table in the middle of the room and wore a long hat and a cape. Nitin was also similarly dressed and he gathered everyone around the table. Eeshan spoke to the group of children gathered around the table, “How about we burn some money?” Eeshan dipped a 10 rupee note in a liquid mixture. He held the note in the air while Nitin lit it with a matchstick. The note burned till the end but nothing happened to it. Instead, it was just wet! 8

  10. “How did you do that?” many children asked. Eeshan said, “The mixture was alcohol and water. When I dipped the note in the mixture it got soaked in alcohol and water. After burning it, the alcohol in the mixture burned out and the water film put out the fire and didn’t let the note burn out. What we have now is a damp note.” The children enjoyed the party and the trick was the talk of the evening. Every child in the party tried the trick so they could dazzle their parents at home. Martin thanked Eeshan for a wonderful birthday surprise and for saving the party!
