  1. Example Lesson Now children open your books to page 117, we are going to learn how to harness the power of explosions. It is quite simple let me read it to you. First …

  2. This session… • Introduce you to Open Rocket and how to use it • Using Open rocket for key analysis like stability, mass etc • Running simulations, understanding the data produced and exporting it. • Getting from design to checkout • Most importantly give you a look at the sort of structure lessons for rocketry groups can take. • Evaluating the lesson and adapting for your branch.

  3. Lessons… • Lesson structure will vary depending on what each branch does. • ICSEDS Lesson structure • Rocketry 101 – Basic 30 minute presentations covering different aspects of model rocketry combined with 30-60 minutes of starter kit building/designing time. • Model Rocketry – 30-45 minute presentations focusing on constructions technique, designing for cluster, multi-stage etcwith 30-60 minutes designing/building time. • High powered rocketry – 30 minute presentations on the different aspects of high powered rocketry with 30-60 minute discussion/designing/building time.

  4. Rocket CAD I got to the moon on the Kerbal Space Program, does that count ?

  5. Today … • Usefulness • Packages available • How to use Open Rocket • Building a Rocket • Simulations • Flying High • Buying a Rocket

  6. Why… • Rocket Science is a science and without a computer it would require us doing a lot of calculations • So Rocket CAD software allows for quick analysis of a rocket and stability • Also means being able to change variables and seeing how it affects your rockets performance straight away • Visualisations and seeing the fit of your rocket could also be very helpful as well.

  7. Packages • RockSim – Apogee components, costs • SpaceCAD - • Open Rocket – Free open source software
