  1. A Tiny Ant And A Big Lesson “Yet we hear that some of you are living in laziness, refusing to work, and wasting your time in gossiping. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ we appeal to such people-we command them-to quiet down, get to work, and earn their won living. And to the rest of you I say, dear brothers, never be tired of doing right.”

  2. The Facts, Please! • There are eight thousand known species of ants that live on all the earth’s land surfaces except the polar regions. The world’s ant population is 10 million billion-more than all mammals, birds, reptiles, and amphibians combined!

  3. More Facts, Please! • Ants live together in large colonies, some of which contain millions of ants. The ants in the nest help one another, sharing both their food and their work. Each colony contains at least one queen, male ants, and workers. All of these are extremely important for the life of the colony.

  4. Still More Facts! • The queens lay most of the eggs. Sometimes there is one queen to a colony; other times there are several. The only work of the male ants is to mate with the queen ants. Most ants in the colony are worker ants. The worker ants are females who usually cannot lay eggs. The queen ant is bigger than the workers. In some species, she is more than one thousand times as big!

  5. Facts, facts, facts! • Worker ants collect the food, feed the young ants, build the next, and take care of all the needs of the queen. There are soldier ants, who protect the nest, and nurse ants, who care for the young.

  6. Another Fact, Please! • Some ants can lift things that weigh 50 times their own weight. That’s equivalent to a person lifting 10,000 pounds! Compared to the size of the builders, their large mounds are three times larger than the Egyptian Pyramids.

  7. One more, please! • The ants that are spoken of in Proverbs are the harvester ants. They eat seeds. In the Holy Land, they often next near where grain is thrashed or stored and carry it into storehouses in their nests. When winter comes, they have plenty to eat.
