Compound subjects. Sentences with compound subjects have two or more subjects. Examples: Guitars and violins are stringed instruments. Ali, Lupe, and Paul play the guitar. John, Reta , and Sam play in the band. My violin case and your violin case are black.

  1. Compound subjects Sentences with compound subjects have two or more subjects. Examples: Guitars and violins are stringed instruments. Ali, Lupe, and Paul play the guitar.

  2. John, Reta, and Sam play in the band.

  3. My violin case and your violin case are black.

  4. You will now become the subject detectives. You will find the compound subject of each sentence and identify the nouns in each subject.

  5. Brianna and Max play the trumpet..

  6. Kim’s flute and Ray’s trumpet are new.

  7. Two vans or the school bus will take the band.

  8. The words andandor are usually used to join the subjects. Use commas to separate three or more subjects.

  9. A banjo has strings. A cello has strings. A banjo and a cello have strings.

  10. Your turn. Combine the following sentences to make a sentence with a compound subject.

  11. The Alamo School band play well. Our band plays well.

  12. The fans cheer for the teams. The band members cheer for the teams.

  13. Gina will play in the band next year. Josh will play in the band next year.
