  10. Listening Guide • “Everybody” 3:55 • 0:00 Introduction • This song starts off with Keith Urban strumming his guitar nice and easy. It gives you a sense of how beat of the song is going to be. He strums and then stops it with his hand, so it gives a feel that there is a drum playing along. • 0:10 Verse 1 • As Keith begins to sing he continues to keeps the same beat on his guitar. He sings as if he wants us to feel a little sadness at first. He give you sense that this is you inside this song. It makes you feel like you’re alone and every day just continues to be boring and routine. And he gives a feeling that when you’re down that all you want to do is run away. You can also hear some drums start to pick up in this verse.

  11. Listening Guide 0:50 Chorus The song really starts to pick up here. Keith starts to sing a little louder and with more emotion. You can hear some bass playing in the background softly and you hear few notes of an electric guitar that trickle in every few moments. With this big burst of emotion, it gives a sense of hope that everybody has someone to help them. 1:16 Verse 2 This verse is a little louder than the first verse. He sings about how we are not alone here in this world. He wants us to never give up and just look for opportunities to be happy even when we feel like there’s no more hope. The drums play a big part in this verse. The sound of the drums give that upbeat feeling like were marching to victory and to never give up. Keith ends this verse by holding a loud note to transition into the next part of the song 1:56 Chorus This chorus holds a lot more emotion and is a lot louder than the first chorus. There is a lot more drums played in the chorus. And the electric guitar is played a lot louder and played all throughout this chorus.

  12. Listening Guide 2:22 Verse 3 This verse begins with a nice little solo to introduce the climax of the song. This verse is by far the loudest part of the song and seems to hold the most emotion. He sings about how maybe he hasn’t always been there when he was needed but he’s here now and he’ll never leave. At the end of this verse he holds a long note to emphases the importance of him always being there. 2:41 Chorus This chorus begins with about a ten second drum and guitar duet, which gives you an opportunity to just enjoy the music. Then as Keith begins to sing again you can hear the acoustic guitar come in and the music begins to slow down. But as the chorus comes to close you hear the drums start beat harder and the tempo pick up again and that’s where the chorus repeats itself but now it’s more upbeat and louder. He then begins to hold out the notes a little longer. As the song comes to a close you just hear all of the instruments slowly fade away and same with his singing.

  13. Listening Guide • Making Memories of Us 4:13 • 0:00 Introduction • It starts off with soft duet by an acoustic and electric guitar. The beat is very smooth and slow. It gives a feeling of a relaxing song. The two guitars blend very well but they are easy to distinguish from one another. • 0:18 Verse 1 • The two guitars continue to play together through this whole verse and maintain the soft smooth beat. Keith begins by singing and saying that he will be there for his lover. The whole verse is centered on trying to gain her trust and trying to tell her that all he wants to do is love her. • 0:57 Chorus • In the chorus you can begin to hear the bass guitar join in and play a strong part. The chorus talks about how no one could ever love her more than him and all he wants to do is make memories together.

  14. Listening Guide 1:14 Verse 2 This verse is where they combine both the electric, acoustic and bass guitar, while now adding in the keyboard. He starts off by talking about how he wants to be honor to her family and continues to say how he wants to be everything she wants him to be. Also he wants to make her world better and it has ever been. 1:52 Chorus This is where the song begins to speed up a bit and the instruments become the loudest in the background. The electric guitar can be heard the loudest and plays the biggest role in part of the chorus.

  15. Listening Guide 2:11 Verse 3 This is by far the most exciting verse and the climax of the song. Keith begins to sing louder and with more vigor. The instruments begin to play even louder. And then about half through the verse all of the sudden the music slows down and becomes soft and calm again. Keith tells his love in this verse that he wants to go where ever life takes them. And tells her that even after this life he will be there to help her and love her. 3:09 Chorus The song ends with the chorus repeating twice but in between there is a nice electric guitar solo. These last choruses begin to slow things done with a lot reassuring love with each word. And then the song ends with an acoustic guitar solo which gives a nice ending to this song.

  16. Listening Guide • “Raining On Sunday” • 0:00 Introduction • The introduction starts with the keyboard just holding one note for about 8 seconds and then the drums come into set the beat. Not much after that you hear the bass guitar begin to play. Not much longer the drums and the electric guitar begin their duet together. • 0:20 Verse 1 • The drums and the electric guitar continue to play and maintain the same beat in the background. Keith in this verse sings about life and how hard it can be sometimes. He always looks for a day of rest just to escape it all.

  17. Listening Guide 0:51 Chorus The chorus brings a little more fun to the song by having the instruments play a little louder and speeding up the tempo. Keith sings about how he wants it to rain all day Sunday so that he and he lover can just stay in bed and relax. He sings about how they don’t need worry about anything else because it will take care of itself. 1:32 Verse 2 This verse starts with a nice little guitar solo to get the feel of how much emotion the verse has. Keith talks about how much he loves this girl and how he loves her kiss. And how nice it is to enjoy the time they spend together. The drums continue to maintain the beat in the background and the electric guitar keeps the melody. Keith ends the verse by holding a long note trying to slowly lead into the chorus.

  18. Listening Guide 2:03 Chorus This chorus only has a very few differences from the first chorus. The first is the back ground music is a little louder. And Keith sings a little slower and holds each note a little longer. The major difference is that there is nice ten second guitar solo that separates a repeat chorus that starts out really slow with the only music in the background is an acoustic guitar. Just about half way through the chorus the drums, electric and bass guitar come in to bring the climax of the song. The song ends with about a minute of just a few words of the chorus being sung but mostly is made up with the music play and the electric guitar playing the main part in the musical finish. The song finishes with guitar solo slowly fading out.
