  1. PHOTO JOURNALISM COMPOSITON By: Ted Eisiminger @ Alex Millard

  2. Simplicity • Simpler the photo the better for an article • There should be nothing distracting in the foreground or the background of the photo • Photo should include one, at most two, centers of interest to grab the attention of the reader

  3. Framing The Photo • Be close to the subject • Do not have any wasted space in the photo fill as much as you can with the subject • Make sure to not have any objects that just appear into the photo ex: telephone poles coming out of heads • When cropping the photo be sure not to cut off any appendages of the subject

  4. Rule of thirds and posed shots • Should always use the rule of third when taking picture. That is the subject of photo should rarely be placed in the center of the frame • Best to avoid posed shots and go for photos of people in action. Want it to be exciting not dull

  5. Work with what you got and give meaning to the image • Using what is already present for what you want to shoot, best to use patterns, curves, and leading line in your photo to give more action to the picture. It will help draw in the attention of a reader. • Using different angles or viewpoints can create more perspectives for an audience to see through. • Make sure the meaning of your picture is always clear you don’t want people having to guess what the main focus of the photo is.
