Pp 6: Kaunas regional development agency

This project aims to promote sustainable and balanced development in the Kaunas region by implementing technological and social innovations, encouraging cooperation between private initiatives and local authorities, and attracting local and foreign investments. The project includes project management meetings, thematic workshops, study visits, roundtable discussions, and a final conference. The Kaunas Regional Development Agency is responsible for coordinating the activities and sharing the experiences with municipalities in the region.

Briefly about Kaunas Region • Area: 8 089 km2 (12.4% of total area of Lithuania) • Population: 577thous.(2016) • Regional center: Kaunas • Municipalities: • Birštonas • Jonava district • Kaišiadorys district • Kaunas city • Kaunas district • Kėdainiai district • Prienai district • Raseiniai district

Kaunas Regional Development Agency • A non-profit non-governmental organization founded in 2000. • Our goals: • To be active in formulating and implementing National regional development policy, to promote sustainable and balanced development of Kaunas region. • To support implementation of technological and social innovations. • To motivate cooperation between private initiatives and local authorities. • To encourage local and foreign investments in Kaunas region, shape favourable, thorough and efficient image of the Region‘s development. • To stimulate local and international interregional cooperation, to participate in social and economical problems solution and development processes of Kaunas region. • Our experience: • Preparation, implementation and administration of projects. • Preparation of regional strategic development documents. • Consulting on project preparation and management; public procurement; searching for funding sources. • Organization and pursuit of qualification trainings for public institutions and private companies; as well as local, regional, national, international events.

Activitiesintheproject (1) • 2 project management meetings (PMM): • PMM2 in Telšiai (Period 2), 2-3 personsfromeachpartner. 1 day. • PMM4 in Kaunas (Period 4), 2-3 personsfromeachpartner. 1 day. • 1 thematic workshop: • Telšiai (Period 2), togetherwith PMM2, 2-5 personsfromeachpartner (allpartners and municipalspecialists), 1 day. • Study visit to Poland and Germany: • Period 1. 17 participantsfrom Lithuania. 5 days (4 nights). • KRDA isresponsible for thedevelopmentofcontent, rentof bus, accommodation and cateringof Lithuanian participants.

Activitiesintheproject (2) • 3 roundtable discussions: • Telšiai (Period 1) • Gargždai (Period 2) • Kaunas (Period 3) • Participants – localstakeholders, Lithuanian partners. • Experience exchange visit to Latvia: • Period 4. 12 participantsfrom Lithuania. 2 days (1 night). • KRDA isresponsible for thedevelopmentofcontent, rentof bus, accommodation and cateringof Lithuanian participants. • Final conference: • Kaunas (Period 4), togetherwith PMM4. 2-5 participantsfromeachpartner. 1,5 daysevent (1 night)

  6. Basic info aboutinstitution • Whythisprojectisimportant to us? • Weworkwith 7 municipalitiesof Kaunas Region. Allmunicipalitieshave to dealwithbrownfields, to cleanthem and adapt to theneedsoflocalstakeholders. • Whatweexpectfromtheproject? • To collectgoodpracticesonbrownfieldmanagement and to sharethisexperiencewithmunicipalitiesin Kaunas region and otherregionsin Lithuania. • Effect/importanceofthecross-bordercooperation: • Participationinjointevents (thematicworkshops, finalconference, studyvisits, etc.) willgive a possibility to learnexperienceofothercountries and look for commonsolutions.
