  2. Background Information • Monocryl is a synthetic, absorbable suture, manufactured and trademarked by Ethicon. It is composed of polyglicaprone 25, which is a copolymer of glycolide and epsilon-caprolactone. • This suture is a monofilament absorbable suture.

  3. Common usage • General soft tissue approximately and/or ligation, subcuticular closure; general, gynecological, urologic, and plastic surgery.

  4. Tensile strength • Maintains a high tensile strength, with a half-life of 7 to 14 days. At one week, it remains its strength at 50-60%, and at two weeks, its at 20-30% with it being completely hydrolyzed by 91-119 days. • Tissue reaction: slight

  5. sizes • Monocryl comes in suture sizes 5-0, 4-0, 3-0, 2-0, 0 • Needle shape: ½ circle • Needle length: various sizes (16mm, 26mm, 36mm, etc.)
