  2. CUNY Placement Tests • How long is the test? • 3-4 hours is the usual amount of time to complete the test. • Writing= 90 minutes timed • Math= UNTIMED take as long as you need! • Reading=UNTIMED take as long as you need!

  3. What are the testing policies? • You must be on time to test • Dictionary Use is Permitted on the writing section (bilingual ok) • Calculators are provided for math on the computer screen • Ask for scrap paper

  4. CUNY Writing Exam (CATW) • What is the format? • Read and respond to a short reading • Parts of a CATW essay: • Summarize the reading • Identify and explain one key idea • Present your perspective using examples • How can I prepare?

  5. CATW Student Sample Read the CATW article and student essay. Respond to the following questions: What makes this an effective essay? What steps do you think the student took to write it?
