  18. How the Federal Government Works • The senate is based on equal representation, two from each state. 100 total • The House of Representatives, size based on population

  19. Powers of Congress • Most important power is to make the nations laws • A bill can be proposed in the House or the Senate • If the President does not like a bill, he has the power to VETO a bill.

  20. Executive Branch • The President carries out the laws and runs the affairs of the national government.

  21. Electing the President • President is elected to a four year term • Per the 22nd Amendment, the President may only serve two terms. • Americans do not vote directly for the President, they vote for electors • The electors are based on the number of senators and representatives in the house.

  23. Amending the Constitution • The Constitution was written to be flexible enough for change but not so flexible that it could be easily changed. • Congress can propose an amendment if both house and the senate vote for the change.
