  1. Vietnam and Guerrilla Warfare • April 21-22, 2014 • Objective: Students will explore the Vietnam War and the tactics of guerrilla warfare through literacy centers and response. • Warm-Up: In light of the video, why do you think the Korean people are immersed in god-like devotion to their leader?

  2. Review: Locate in your notes and identify the countries of Indochina. What country invaded and occupied French Indochina during the 1930’s?

  3. Viet Minh - a communist organization that opposed the re-occupation of Vietnam by France after World War II and later opposed South Vietnam and the US with guerrilla warfare during the Vietnam War. • Viet Cong - a political organization and army in South Vietnam that fought the US and South Vietnamese governments during the Vietnam War. It had both guerrilla and regular army units. • Both organizations were dissolved in 1976 when North and South Vietnam were officially unified under a communist government under Ho Chi Minh.

  4. Guerrilla Warfare • the use of ambushes, raids, sabotage, tunnels, etc., by small, mobile groups of untrained forces operating in enemy territory that target enemy personnel and resources.

  5. Warm-Up: Ho Chi Minh • “World Cultures and Geography” • Read ‘War’ p. 450. • Answer ‘Main Ideas’ questions 1-3 on p. 453 in your notebook. • Rephrase the questions to begin your answers.

  7. Literacy Centers • Begin where you are. You must visit all centers to read/view the material prior to beginning the next activity. • Take notes at each center particularly the examples of guerrilla warfare. You will need these for the next activity. • Be sure to read the back of each text.

  8. Instructions • Create a movie poster for a movie about Vietnam. The poster must include the harsh climate, environment and conditions of the war, specifically guerrilla warfare tactics. • On the back of your poster, you must include 3-4 sentences explaining the images you chose to depict. • Turn in to Mrs. Dolinger for a grade.
