  1. The Facts about the Birth of Christ

  2. The Facts about the Birth of Christ "Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel”. (Isaiah 7:14)

  3. The Facts about the Birth of Christ Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: After His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit…. an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. "And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name JESUS, for He will save His people from their sins." So all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying: "Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel," which is translated, "God with us.” (Mt. 1:18, 20-23).

  4. The Facts about the Birth of Christ ”Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king… And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he inquired of them where the Christ was to be born. So they said to him, "In Bethlehem of Judea, for thus it is written by the prophet: 'But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, Are not the least among the rulers of Judah; For out of you shall come a Ruler Who will shepherd My people Israel.'“ (Matthew 2:1, 4-6; quotation of Micah 5:2)

  5. The Facts about the Birth of Christ Jesus was born of a virgin in fulfillment of prophecy in Bethlehem to be the Savior (Is. 7:14; Mt. 1:18-23; Mic. 5:2; Mt. 2:1,4-6) Who went to the manger and what was the sign?

  6. The Facts about the Birth of Christ “Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. Then the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. "For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. "And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger." And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: "Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!" So it was, when the angels had gone away from them into heaven, that the shepherds said to one another, "Let us now go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has come to pass, which the Lord has made known to us." And they came with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the Babe lying in a manger” (Luke 2:8-16).

  7. The Facts about the Birth of Christ Jesus was born of a virgin in fulfillment of prophecy in Bethlehem to be the Savior. (Is. 7:14; Mt. 1:18-23; Mic. 5:2; Mt. 2:1,4-6) The shepherds went to the manger with the sign of the baby wrapped in swaddling clothes lying in a manger (Luke 2:8-16). Where did the star lead the wise men to?

  8. The Facts about the Birth of Christ “Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, saying, "Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him.“ …. (after being shown from the Scriptures it was Bethlehem)…”And he sent them to Bethlehem and said, "Go and search carefully for the young Child, and when you have found Him, bring back word to me, that I may come and worship Him also." When they heard the king, they departed; and behold, the star which they had seen in the East went before them, till itcame and stood over where the young Child was. When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceedingly great joy. And when they had come into the house, they saw the young Child with Mary His mother, and fell down and worshiped Him. And when they had opened their treasures, they presented gifts to Him: gold, frankincense, and myrrh” (Matthew 2:1-2, 7-11).

  9. The wise men followed the star which led them to Jesus house, not where He was lying in the manger at his birth (Matthew 2:1-2, 7-11). Why were Joseph and Mary in Bethlehem at this time and does the Bible tell us when Christ was born?

  10. The Census Commanded Joseph and Mary to go to Bethlehem “And it came to pass in those days that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered. This census first took place while Quirinius was governing Syria. So all went to be registered, everyone to his own city. Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, to be registered with Mary, his betrothed wife, who was with child.” (Luke 2:1-5)

  11. Catholics Admit the Bible doesn’t Give the Date of Christ’s Birth and that Census Travel would have been Impossible in Winter The Catholic Encyclopedia admits, “Concerning the date of Christ's birth the Gospels give no help; upon their data contradictory arguments are based. The census would have been impossible in winter: a whole population could not then be put in motion.” (Online edition)

  12. No Flocks in the Field in December Methodist scholar Adam Clarke said, “It was a custom among the Jews to send out their sheep to the deserts, about the passover, and bring them home at the commencement of the first rain: during the time they were out, the shepherds watched them night and day. As the passover occurred in the spring, and the first rain began early in the month of Marchesvan, which answers to part of our October and November, we find that the sheep were kept out in the open country during the whole of the summer. And as these shepherds had not yet brought home their flocks, it is a presumptive argument that October had not yet commenced, and that, consequently, our Lord was not born on the 25th of December, when no flocks were out in the fields; nor could he have been born later than September, as the flocks were still in the fields by night. On this very ground the nativity in December should be given up. The feeding of the flocks by night in the fields is a chronological fact, which casts considerable light upon this disputed point.”

  13. The Facts about the Birth of Christ Jesus was born of a virgin in fulfillment of prophecy in Bethlehem to be the Savior. (Is. 7:14; Mt. 1:18-23; Mic. 5:2; Mt. 2:1,4-6) The shepherds went to the manger with the sign of the baby wrapped in swaddling clothes lying in a manger (Luke 2:8-20). The wise men followed the star which led them to Jesus house, not where He was lying in the manger at his birth (Matthew 2:1-11). The Bible does not tell us when he was born, but it could not have been in the winter. (Deuteronomy 29:29; Luke 2:1-5, 8)

  14. Conclusion The facts of the birth of Christ refute man’s ideas about celebrating His birth on December 25th. Jesus commanded that we remember His death. (Matthew 26:26-29; Luke 22:19-20) The church which Christ died for did it on the 1st day of the week in obedience to that command which includes today even though it is December 25th. (Acts 2:42; 20:7, 28; 1 Cor. 11:23ff) Christ was never in Christmas as it was authorized by a command of men which makes our worship vain if we allow ourselves to submit to its decrees (Col. 2:8, 20ff; Matt. 15:9; 2 Cor. 5:16f).
