  1. Creative Critcal Reflection BY: Ramiro Ferrey AICE Media Studies

  2. How does your product use or challenge conventions? • My movie would be in the horror/slasher genre. Typically, horror/slasher movies have blood, a killer usually male, multiple victims or just one, suspenseful music, and suspenseful scenes. Typically, horror films only show the POV of the protagonist but for my film I showed the POV of the murderer. Specific scenes incorporated blood, as do usual horror/slasher films. The killer, played by me, is male like most typically horror/slasher films. In the aspect of challenging conventions, my film consists of psychological, internal conflict with the main character.

  3. How does it represent social groups or issues? My targeted audience is the Adolescents. It relates to them because the characters in the movie are in the same age group of adolescents. It is also suspenseful and mysterious and catches the audience’s attention. The issue in this movie is the exaggerated portrayal of mental instability and insanity and the consequences of it. In my movie, the lead character executes his close female friend, due to the fact that he is not mentally stable and is not aware of his actions. It is shows society’s negligence toward these people and the importance of this problem. If it was addressed properly, there would be less deadly accidents and many people would not have to suffer the loss of a loved one.

  4. How does your product engage with audiences? • Horror movies are pretty popular now so that would be one the reasons that the audience would go to watch the movie. Fans of Twenty-One Pilots would be interested in the film as well. In the film I included one of their songs (Heavydirtysoul). The audience would be engaged by the beat of the Twenty-one Pilots song because it goes well with the film. The serial killer is a teen because the audience would be more teens than adults so the teens would be interested. Also, the cheesiness of the film make the audience attracted to the film. The movie Sharknado is a popular because the cheesiness of the film, the horrible acting, and poor graphic. My movie would be as popular as the movie Sharknado. In the movie the main character is hiding a knife so that would make the audience curious about why is he holding a knife. The character kills a girl so the audience would want to why. At the end of the film the main character is running to a girl by then ends before anything else happens so the audience would want to know who that girl is and why is he running to her.

  5. How would it be distributed as a real media text? • My film would be distributed anywhere within only budget. Before it is released I would release a trailer and release little tidbits post of the movie on social media such as Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook until the release of the movie. Our film won’t be in the major movie theaters because we have a small budget it would be in the small ones. The film would make CD copies but only a limited because of the budget. The film would be distributed thorough streaming programs such as Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Video.

  6. How did your production skills develop throughout this project? • My production skills greatly developed throughout this film. The pre-production process was fairly easy because we have been practicing in class before we started the final task but I still improved slightly. My planning was on point I thought it was perfect, working alone on the project helped improve my skills because working alone means you have do it all by yourself but if you were a group you would divide it sections. Filming and Editing, were fairly easy when filming and editing you have to have to be patience and have a certain mindset to get it done well and perfectly. I think I have grown as a strong filmmaker . I learned that being patient is critical for this project and not procrastinating is critical because a deadline could hit you right in the face. Also, I learned that everything can not be perfect and when it does not go your way you must be patient. I don’t think that there was something that I didn’t liked. I loved every thing about the filming process. I think as career I would go into filmmaking or writing the script or story I think that it is very interesting and it would go great with my creative side. The journey as a filmmaker was great and I would do it again.

  7. How did you integrate technologies- software, hardware and online-in this project? • The editing program that I used was Premiere Pro CC which I had to pay a subscription for. Premiere Pro was fairly easy to use and was essential for the editing of my film. I used Premiere Pro before so the editing process was smooth. If I didn’t know how to do something on the program I would go and research it on the internet. To export my video I had to use a program called Media Encoder because the exporting quality of this program is better than Premiere Pro. I figured that out when I was exporting my first film I did in AICE Media Studies and it was bad quality all pixelated so I used Media Encoder. The Media Encoder was very easy to use. Online Blogging, was essential, it had all of my information so I could go back and refer back to it. I guess you could consider a Flashlight a hardware. The Flashlight was critical for my project because my film was shot in the dark so I needed some sort of lighting.
