  6. LEED EB has recently evolved to LEED Operations and Maintenance. Requirements of all LEED credits are similar, but there are differences between LEED EB, LEED O & M and LEED for New Construction. LEED will evolve to LEED 2009.

  11. Intent • Reduce exposure of building occupants and maintenance personnel to potentially hazardous chemical, biological and particle contaminants, which adversely impact air quality, health, building finishes, building systems and the environment.

  12. Requirements • Develop, implement and maintain a low environmental impact integrated indoor pest management policy.

  13. SubmittalsCopy of the Low Environmental Impact Pest Management Policy. The plan shall: • Promote safer alternatives to chemical pesticides. • Reduce the reliance on chemical pesticides. • Ensure clear and accurate notification concerning the use of pesticides. • Require site inspections or pest inspections • Require pest population monitoring • Require sanitation, structural repairs, mechanical and living biological controls, Least toxic pesticide.

  14. Communication Strategy • Universal Notification requires not less than 72 hours before a pesticide is applied. • Emergency Notification requires notification 24 hours in advance. • Material Safety Data Sheets • Name, address and contact information for the contact person

  15. Pest prevention should begin outside the building • Keep landscape at least three feet away from building entrances. • Install barriers to prevent pest intrusions. • Inspect site and monitor populations.

  16. When a pest is identified • First, bait and trap. • Next use the least toxic pesticide. • Comply with notification requirements • Eliminate the sources, food and water.

  17. Having and using an IPM will also qualify towards a credit in Sustainable Sites Credits 1.1 and 1.2 Green Site and Building Exterior Management 1-2 points

  18. Intent Encourage building exterior management practices that have the lowest environmental impact.

Requirements • One point is earned for each four (4) items addressed • Maintenance equipment • Plantings • Animal and vegetation pest control • Landscape waste • Irrigation management • Fertilizer use • Snow removal • Cleaning of building exterior • Paints and sealants used on the building • Other maintenance of the building exterior
