Work Done since May, 2014 Hydrology project Phase-II Completed DSS for water resources assessment and planning in 13 river sub basins, (e.g. Brahmani-Baitarni river basins; Rs 15 crore saved for Pune water supply scheme, etc. Real-Time DSS for flood forecasting & reservoir operations in Bhakra & Upper-Krishna & Bhima river basins. (Rs 100 crore per year saved from crop and other damages) Real-time Water Quality Monitoring Systems at 13 sites in Ganga river basin. Pilot Project on Aquifer Mapping through Advanced geophysical surveys (Heliborne survey) Development of web-based database management software for surface, ground and Water quality eliminating AMC for states. 3

National Hydrology Project (NHP) NHP envisages to address the critical issues of water allocation, irrigation, water security etc. in a holistic manner Objectives of NHP: Establish system for timely & reliable water resources data creation and management Provide tools/systems for informed decision making for water resources assessment, planning and management. Capacity building of the States and Central organisations in Water resources management MoWR is proposing NHP as Central Sector Scheme with external support 4

  5. Approval of EFC & Salient features of Cabinet Note • EFC has approved the NHP proposal on 16.10.2015. Cabinet Note sent for approval on 18.03.2016 • Overall cost of Rs. 3679.7674 crore as a 100 % Central Sector Scheme (MoWR, RD & GR shall give grant to the States) • Rs. 3,640 crore for NHP • Rs. 39.7674 crore for setting up of National Water Informatics Centre (NWIC) • The World Bank Loan Component shall be 50% of the Project Cost , i.e. Rs 1839.8837 crore 5

Action Points for 2016-17 Issuance of G.O. after approval of Cabinet Note Finalisation of Project Implementation Plans (PIP) and preparation of Project Appraisal Document (PAD) by the World Bank in consultation with MoWR,RD&GR Tripartite Negotiation on Loan proceeds amongst MoWR, RD&GR, DEA and the World Bank Signing of the Loan Agreement & Project Agreement for commencement of the Project with the World Bank and the States Shifting of NHP office to new premises. Engagement of Technical and Management Consultancy for the project. Approval of data sharing protocol (report submitted) 6

  7. Suggestions for improvement Audit of processes for data sharing, collection and dissemination of data and their ISO certification. Setting up of Data Security protocols International cooperation through MoUs with reputed organisations in the field of water resources, capacity building etc.. Establishment of UNESCO Chair on Water Resources in India Immediate filling up of the posts as proposed in the Cabinet Note 7
