MIA Mobile Information Assistant for SNCB Logistics Trains

The MIA innovation project at SNCB Logistics introduces the use of the MiA Mobile Information Assistant to enhance train operations. Ground operators like Jos can now easily access instructions, train details, and report damages using the MIA phablet. The why… This is groundoperator Jos… He receives his instructions from his boss, Piet… So his boss can encode it in the IT system… And delivers the information he has written… Leadtime: On a piece of paper And transmit it to analysts… Safety: Once his work is done, he reports back to Piet… Cost: He has no other information, no history, no pictures… And his wagon… Then he has to find his train… Sometimes, things aren’t right… Empowerment: Damage report

The how… He can phone his boss, Piet, if he needs additional help… Take, store and analyze pictures… Now groundoperator Jos has a MIA phablet… Where he can read his instructions… Find details about his wagons… Jos is now at the heart of the process Read relevant information displayed in a simple way …

DamApp Step by Step (1/3) Picture to be added Picture to be added Ground Operator prepares his mission(s) and priority with under Station Responsible Ground Operator is registered for a mission, and get required information &material (ex : Train Composition list, and lamps) Ground Operator starts its mission and walks towards the train/wagons Before starting his mission, ground Operator ensure GPS is activated on MIA device

DamApp Step by Step (2/3) Picture to be added If needed, ground operator communicates with Under Station Responsible or Infrabel trough its MiA device During his mission, Ground Operator discovers a damage and takes its MiADevice to open a Damage Case With MiA device, he identifies the right Damage CU code and related measures to be undertaken He creates the related Damage Sticker, with damage code & wagon id as input

DamApp Step by Step (3/3) • The Ground Operator take a picture(*) of • Damage • Damage sticker • Wagon info (to ensure wagon Id & Owner) • The ground operator performs a Damage Report Review : • Code(s) • Textual description • Pictures • Voice record description After successful review , he validates it and the report is automatically sent to predefined email recipients The operator can go further with its mission, while the (email) report is handled trough ad-hoc process (*) with Geotagging thanks GPS activation in step 4
