  1. Overview of DFO Climate-Ecosystems programs Alain Vézina NWA Climate Workshop February 16 – 17, 2010

  2. COMDA CCSI Regional models Impacts on ecosystems Emerging issues Modelling support (infrastructure, development) IGS BSS Acidification Iron fertilization Climate impacts (NWA) NL NS LSLE SoG GoMA LO

  3. A tale of two coasts Strait of Georgia in 2030 Gulf of Maine Area Integrated assessments: drivers of past changes, climate-fishing interactions Development of climate indicators Regional climate models Biophysical modelling: impacts of climate on the base of the food chain Ecosystem models: Impacts of climate on higher trophic levels

  4. Back here Climate Variability and Change is a Maritimes Science priority (Strategic Plan 2009-13) Develop a regional “climate variability and change program” that coordinates relevant branch activities (e.g. from the Atlantic Zone Monitoring Program (AZMP), Arctic monitoring, COMDA, CCSI, GOMA-ERI, Updates of climate change reports).

  5. How are we doing so far? • Zonally, working to improve coordination and reporting of monitoring programs • Maintain Arctic monitoring in Barrow strait • Update of Wright and Frank reports on track CCSI IGS COMDA GoMA-ERI Climate component

  6. How do we move this to policy / management? • Legacy data products for scientists and clients • Involvement in specific advisory processes, e.g. herring, haddock • RAP synthesis: framework for combining individual assessments, incorporating oceanographic information and assessing cumulative effects (Ross Claytor lead) • Presentations to Operational groups
