  2. Using the Pro Strips™ 5 • Biothreat Detection Kit

  3. Advnt developed the Pro Strips™ product line to be extremely easy to use, while providing you with sensitivity and specificity unmatched by any other rapid test available today - PERIOD! • Easy to use - results in as little as 3 minutes. • Extremely accurate with excellent detection capabilities. • No expensive equipment or electronic readers required. • Preservation of sample - Requires only one small sample. • No cross-reactivity to dozens of near-neighbor strains, as well as hundreds of common household powders, including corn starch, yeast, flour, baby powder and aspirin. • Successfully evaluated by the U.S Department of Defense, Ministry of Defense (UK), German Military (WIS), the Environmental Protection Agency and hundreds of First Responders around the world. • Major Training Facilities include Dugway Proving Grounds & ACBIRC / Advanced Chemical Biological Integrated Response, Center for Domestic Preparedness/Department of Homeland Security, Federal Emergency Management Agency, Defence R & D Canada Suffield

  4. For the purpose of this training exercise, we will be using the Pro Strips™ ATTAK™ simulation/trainer device. The ATTAK™ test device was designed by First Responders to provide a realistic training scenario. The function of this test is identical to an actual Pro Strips 5 test. The kit contains non-toxic simulation powders and liquids to provide a realistic training scenario. Run correctly, ATTAK™ will provide a unique opportunity to experience first hand, the proper procedures used when using an HHA in the Hot Zone or in the lab.

  5. In addition to the ATTAK devices included in your Kit, there is a single device called the PS-5S. This device demonstrates the variety of results that can be achieved when using hand-held assays. Great for providing students with a visual of the types of results they may experience in the field. Positive: When two lines appear in any single window, the test is positive for that particular analyte or substance. Weak Positive: When two lines form but the line under the (T) is faint or barely visible. Regardless of its intensity, the test should be considered a positive result. Negative: A single line under the (C) with no visible line under the (T) means the test is working correctly and that the test is negative. You should always see a line under the (C) Invalid: When a single line forms under the (T) but fails to form under the (C) means the test is invalid and a second test should be run. Expired devices, Exposure to high heat (140 F) can cause an invalid result. Invalid: When no lines appear in any single window. The test is invalid and a second test should be run. (Invalid results are very rare)

  6. Getting Started • Place the foil pouch in front of you. • Confirm that the test has not expired by reading the date code imbedded in the seam. • All our tests have a two year shelf life from date of manufacture. Example 407505 EXPIRE 12/08 • When ready, tear open the pouch - a small cut is notched for convenience.

  7. Getting Started • Remove the contents from the silver foil pouch and place them in front of you. • Unfold the instruction sheet and place it where you can easily read the information. • Tear open the white foil pouch and remove the test.

  8. Getting Started • Everything you need to perform our tests are included in each kit. • No additional collection kits or electronic readers required. • Each Simulation test kit will include the following: • 1- Large silver re-sealable foil pouch which can serve as a biohazard bag. • 1- 3x5 white foil pouch which includes the actual test and moisture pouch. • 1- Instruction sheet. • 1- dropper/swab/pipette micro-tube with liquid buffer.

  9. Getting Started • Place the test in front of you with the text upright and the oval sample window to your right. Sample Window

  10. Performing the Test • Next - Unscrew the cap from the diluent tube and begin removing the swab. • Before completely removing the swab, rub the foam tip around the inside of the tube to remove excess liquid.

  11. Collecting The Sample • Your instructor will provide you with a powder or liquid to perform the test. • When collecting your sample, it is important to roll the swab tip through the material several times, collecting as much as possible before returning the swab back to the diluent bottle.

  12. Collecting The Sample • Return the swab and sample back to the diluent tube and firmly tighten the cap.

  13. Performing the Test • Shake the tube up and down for approximately 5-10 seconds

  14. Performing the Test • Remove the clear protective cap and place it to the side. • Using your thumb or index finger, snap the tip off the top of the tube. • The bottle now becomes a dropper.

  15. Performing the Test • SLOWLYadd 10 drops of sample into the sample window. (2 -3 seconds between drops) • Replace the clear protective cap back onto the diluent tube and set the tube aside.

  16. Performing The Test • As the test starts to work - you will begin to see a faint reddish color begin to migrate across the test windows. • Colloidal gold, coupled with antibodies create this color.

  17. Performing The Test • As this color continues to migrate across the test window - faint red lines will begin to appear under the control line (C) and possibly the test line (T)

  18. Performing The Test • As the reddish material continues to migrate, the test windows will begin to clear and your result lines (C) and/or (T) will become more distinct. • Within 5-10 minutes your test window will become white again - leaving only the test result lines. • The next frame will provide you with an understanding of the results.

  19. Understanding The Results Positive: When two lines appear in any single window, the test is positive for that particular analyte or substance. (An invalid result is very rare) Invalid: When no lines appear in any single window. The test is invalid and a second test should be run. (An invalid result is very rare) Your Pro Strips™ ATTAK should look similar to the device above when complete. If your results are different, compare your results with the information on the left.

  20. Understanding The Results • The test below is an actual Pro Strips™ 5 device indicating a positive result for Ricin Toxin (Ricinus communis).. • As you can see, Anthrax, Botulinum, Y. pestis (plague) and SEB are indicating negative results.

  21. Completion • With the test complete and the results read - return ALL of the testing materials back into the original re-sealable foil pouch and zip closed. • The pouch is made of vapor-locked foil and can serve as a temporary biohazard bag for the lab. • NOTE: The orange Chain of Custody label shown here is not included in the training kits. However, we show it here to inform you that one is included in all of Advnt’s actual Biowarfare test kits

  22. Completion • Once again, the Chain of Custody label is not included in the training kits. However, we show it here to inform you that it is included in all of Advnt’s actual Biowarfare test kits • Complete the Chain of Custody label, remove the backing, and seal it over the foil pouch opening with the perforated portion folded over the top as shown. • You may choose to place this pouch into an additional biohazard bag depending on your protocols.

  23. An extensive amount of Research and Development has gone into the Pro Strips™ product line, providing extraordinary sensitivity and specificity, unmatched by any other Hand-Held Assay available today. The lowest limits of detection, (LOD) along with the precise detection of very specific analytes, provides an exceptional level of confidence when confronting a potential credible threat.
