Background to the Project WAG ‘Making the Connections’ agenda A background of 5 LEAs with different delivery patterns, individual contexts driven by the local issues In depth data analysis of current provision Focus groups and individual interviews with Headteachers across the consortium Visits to other LEAs using CPD On-line Liaison with GTCW to inform planning Review of the original specification with software design team

Objectives of the New System Working together to: • Extend the current offer to secondary schools • Improve the economic viability of courses • Reduce the level of cancellations • Address unnecessary duplication in provision • Reduce gaps in current provision to improve choice • Extend the range of expertise available to all partners • Introduce added features eg EPDR and impact reports

  4. Process Implementation Development of Consortium: • CPD SE WALES subscription and charging policy • Standard policy on course descriptions, booking and cancellation policies • Standard CPD evaluation format • System to measure impact of CPD • Quality assurance system

Facts and Figures • The System was launched 1st April 2008 • 5,725 bookings for events have gone through the system • There are currently 7586 unique users registered on the system. • Currently 557 Events available to book online. • 109 Experts offering Expertise in their subject areas. • Events on the system have been viewed 57,000 times. • 19 Requests for Expertise have been made via CPD Online.

Adding Value & Improving the Service • A bigger choice of CPD across the consortium • A broader range of expertise will be available to schools than could be provided by any one LEA • Electronic up-to-date records of CPD of all staff within any one school • Individual staff can store & develop their CV, CPD records and related documents in one area • Increased accessibility to GTCW application process • An effective structure to facilitate school networking within and across LEAs

  7. Adding Value & Improving the Service • The use of joint appointments and joint sourcing of outside consultants to address gaps in provision • LEAs and schools will be able to generate a wide range of management statistics to evaluate and monitor the impact of CPD upon school practice/standards • Collaboration with educational institutions to improve the accessibility to accredited qualifications • The site is accessible in English and Welsh

Initial Feedback “The initial start-up of the system is very promising making CPD more manageable” “A very good system – I’m sure it will continue to develop” “We are very pleased with the early access to support” “This has been a much easier and quicker way for staff to access the courses they want” “I feel it is easy to access, and also you can book courses from home. More accessible than the course booklet”
