  2. Presentation Objectives • Provide background and context to explain how DeKalb County initially funded the MAPP process. • Describe how the MAPP process helped the county attract new funding.

  3. MAPP Phase One(Organize for Success) • Determine the necessity of undertaking the MAPP process. • Identify and organize participants. • Design the planning process. • Assess resource needs and secure commitment. • Conduct a readiness assessment. • Manage the process.

  5. Securing Commitment:Personnel • DeKalb County Board of Health (3 FTEs) • Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta (.5 FTE) • Grady Health System (.5 FTE) Total: 4 FTEs

MAPP Implementation Structure Steering Council (SC) Facilitated by two volunteer Co-Chairs Membership: 25-30 Community Members Staff Support provided by MAPP Partners CTSACHSALPHSA FOCA Each Facilitated by two Co-Leaders (1 from Steering Council) Additional Participants: community volunteers Staff Support provided by MAPP Partners

  7. Securing Commitment:Operational Support • Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta • DeKalb County Board of Health • Grady Health System • United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta Total: $75,000

  12. Future Directions • Tobacco Coalition, Steps Leadership Team and Healthy DeKalb Meeting to Discuss Sustainability, October 2005 • Healthy DeKalb Committed to MAPP/Mini-MAPP, every 1-2 years

  13. Benefits of MAPP • Establish stronger partnerships within community • Proactively manage change rather than react to it • Improve community health • Create and strengthen public health systems • Assure the implementation of the 10 Essential Services. . .
