  21. SECOND LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS • A second language is NOT required for graduation • A second language is required for university entrance

  22. Four ways to get a second language: • Language 9, 10, 11 UBC requires a Language 11 UBC Arts recommends a Language 12 SFU requires a Beginners Language 11 • Beginners Language 11 plus Language 11 • Language Challenge Exam ( UBC will not use this exam in their admission averages for approved grade 12 courses) • Community College (University Transfer) may have to complete a second language at college depending on your future course of studies

  23. ELL LEVEL • Assume that it takes two semesters to move a level • If in the same level for both semesters this year, then go up one level next year • If you changed levels this year, stay in the current level for one more semester

  25. ELL PROGRAM ELL 2 has an English and a Science component.

  26. ELL PROGRAM ELL 3 is a linear course with an English and a Socials component.

  28. FAILS AND INCOMPLETES(Academic Course Results) INCOMPLETE (40 TO 49%) • go to Summer School to complete the course • 4 weeks in July • 1 ½ hours per day per course • in the AM. • Can take 1 or 2 courses The incomplete grade is changed in August to a PASS or FAIL

  29. FAILS (0 to 39%) All compulsory courses must be repeated if failed (English, Socials, Math, Science, PE) Example: If you fail Math 8, take Math 8 in first semester of grade 9 and then take Math 9 in second semester.
